What Should I Do With the Scouts From the Battleforce?

So I haven't touched my five scouts that came in the battleforce....how would you guys suggest fielding them? Five men seems to be kinda small to be effective.......should I just load them for anti tank (melta + 2 Plasma's....seems kinda pricey)?

If you want a cheap disruption unit simply give them a Melta and maybe a Power Weapon and they can melta a tank or charge into a heavy weapons squad or something and cause some highly distracting problems for your opponent. Or you could specialise them purely for cc or anti-tank with plasma pistols or cut special weaponry entirely. It really depends on what you want to do with them. I use:

 

5 Wolf Scouts + Wolf Guard

-Meltagun & Power Fist on the WG

 

It's a fairly effective and inexpensive disruption unit that has an impressive tally of chaos and damage to it's name including Leman Russ Battle Tanks, Land Raiders, Broadside and Crisis Battlesuits, Devastators, Bassilisks and more. They're nice for throwing a wrench into my opponents plans without sacrificing too much of my own force.

Thanks for the suggestion Vash. Would you think its worth spending a few extra points for a combi melta on the WG? Would give that *little bit* more of a punch for not too many points.

 

Ullr Direfang: Yeah I went through those threads, its usually alot of generic scout questions, or talking about squads with more than 5 men. I figured my question would be a little more focused, since I only have five scouts from the battleforce XD

Certainly, it's not too expensive and doubles the squad's anti-tank potential on the turn they arrive, well worth in my opinion and it's a fairly common thing to do. I just converted a chainblade bayonet on my Wolf Guard's bolter and haven't felt like swapping it for a combi-melta yet...

 

One of my favorite tactics is to have the squad pop up behind a squadron of artillery or battle tanks, melta and shoot bolt pistols into the rear armor of one and charge the squadron getting into contact with as many tanks as possible that remain and trying to at least shake them and keep them from firing. It's worked fairly well on a number of occasions, either temporarily or permanently silencing a large portion of an opponents heavy firepower, particularly those pesky Imperial Guard tank squadrons.

 

The squad is useful for silencing any kind of indirect fire artillery that's hidden from the rest of your army and would otherwise be difficult to reach and eliminate.

5 scouts +bitz- 100pts.

 

1 Melta, 1 Powerweapon, 3 BP+CCW. Good at killin tanks, good at hitting command squads and heavy weapon teams, especially good at either if you throw in a well equiped wolf gaurd for another 40-60pts.

I run scouts in most of my games and they are always 5 strong with a meltagun and meltabombs.

 

They are cheap and greeat for taking out any kind of armor. Or even if they dont get to take any armor with them they provide a really nice distraction from the meaner parts of my force
