Modeling Help :S

Hey everyone :thanks:

I am really starting to try and get my Space Wolves all made and painted in the next month or two (despite about 3 essays to do, and coursework, and i need about 200 photos for my photography work  but hey who needs school, warhammer is much more important, than getting good enough grades to go to Uni next year :tu:)

and i need some help....

Firstly just a loadout question really:

What should my TDA Wolf Lord have?

What should my WGBL have (he will probably be in power armour...)

What should my next squad of Wolf Guard have (or just what kinda Wolf Guard units do you run? i already have combi-plasmas.... and some TH/SS, and WCs ;) i have 20 Wolf Guard already :P)

Whats a good way to do snow bases?

how to i model Bjorn from a Black Reach Dread?

And apart from the heads, and shoulderpads what makes Bloodclaws diffrent? (in look?)

and how do you use Green stuff to make decent looking wolf pelts?

Thanks

Hi there, :thanks:

Now normally I HATE it when people post this as a response, but in your case, I think its appropriate:

Use the search function. Thats a helluva lot of questions!

Also, post up what you have in your army already, and what you want to achieve with your list.

Thanks!

I don't like the serch function  once when i sercherd for something, i think 13th company, most of the Space Wolve board came up

Bjorn would probably work....

But yeah basically i want to have a fairly solid list, with a couple of hard hitting units (the Terminators) i'm not sure if a general kinda list will work for my club, as there is pretty much every army.... and diffrent types of most armies.... so i will want to chage some bits game to game.... e.g if i'm playing the Ork Horde, i want more Grey Hunters, and to use my ML/HB long Fangs...but if i play the Ork person who has 2 Nob squads, (that don't die.... 5+ inv, then 4+ feel no pain, and he passes way tooo many saves....) i would want a couple of Wolf Guard units in there to knock them around (and Rune Pirest to JOTWW them :thanks:)

i just want a Wolf Lord and WBGL to have as slightly diffrent 'cheaper' HQs (not really that cheap when you load em out loads....) and the other Wolf Guard unit, i don't really know what to do, i just bought another box, so i can use Green stuff to do bits and pieces on them :tu:

thanks

Ok...

I have started Bjorn today !!!!!

From a Black Rach Dread....

I have used a Terminator heavy flamer.... (its quite big, but Bjorn should look big :D)

for the claw, i have used a bit of green stuff and the ends of the power/frost swords...

for the plasma cannon, i have greenstuffed 2 devestator plasma cannons together...

I have a load of space Wolve bits to put on him, but won't be able to do that today.....

Does anyone think that putting 2 Storm Sheilds on a Dreadnaught (along with some other wolfy bits....) would make a decent Ven.Dread?

Wolfy bits are all good!

I myself am waiting for the Forge World dread to use as my Bjorn but I think with the correct application of pelts and so on a normal dread will work fine.

I haven't got to play a game yet with space wolves, so I can't give you much advice on listbuilding, but for your wolfguard terminators, magnetizing them is a lot of fun, so you get a squad that can change as your personal tastes and the metagame changes. It's also not terribly difficult.

Blood claws (I'm pretty sure) don't have beards - they also have a bolt pistol and close combat weapon. My philosophy on army building is that, really, you are the only one who might care if your blood claws really look like blood claws, so I plan on making a fair few with helmets on and no markings distinguishing them as blood claws. Ironically, they can then serve as wolf guard and blood claws. Someone more experienced and dedicated can tell you if they're supposed to have a certain color of shoulderpads or anything else.

For your Bjorn conversion, post a picture of what you've got so far and the pros (there are a bunch on this board) can give you more help. As long as its tastefully done the wolfy bits (storm shields, backpack banners/symbols, etc) look great on vehicles. As for what makes it a venerable dread - you can either use one of the...mark IV dreads? The kind with the head on them (there's a tutorial for making one using a terminator front torso and an assault on black reach dread, looked pretty good), but mainly what makes it a venerable dread is telling your opponent.

Check the painting, converting, and modeling forum for wolf pelts and snow bases, I'm pretty sure there are some recent tutorials for both. The pelt tutorial was a little intimidating (to me), so what I'm going to try eventually is flat-casting the pelt from the back of the torso that comes with the wolf pack sprues. That leaves you needing a wolf head - doesn't one come with the wolf guard box? Flat casting is pretty easy with a little practice, and if you managed to flat cast the pelts with green stuff you can take them out before they're completely set, and then move it to fit what you want it over. That's all theoretical, so let me know if it works as well as I think it will.

Snow bases (again hypothetically) can be made using baking soda, white elmer's glue, with some white paint and a LITTLE bit of space wolves grey - this prevents any possible discoloration due to the glue yellowing. Then take a sculpting tool or something similar to press it onto your base. If done right they look pretty good, but the supplies are all cheap so play with it till it looks like you want.

Man, I feel you about the schoolwork - my first law school exam is tomorrow, and I've been studying for the last two weeks. No warhammer till they're over ;)

So...hope that helped, good luck with school. Just remember, the reason you're going to school is to afford more space wolves in the future, let that be your motivation.
