Winter Wolf War

Righto...update from last night. Nothing extra painted and not so much converting done as i'd hoped, however...I'm quite chuffed with the results. I decided that as I can't find my snips (i fear they've run off at the idea of doing any work) and most of the work with the techmarine/iron priest will be done in plastic I'd work on him. I'll walk though What I've done step by step and then post some pics tomorrow. Was thinking of putting it in for the Heresy conversion comp but while it's fun it's pretty basic.

So we start with the thunderfire cannon tech marine which we're hoping to turn into an iron priest and also the leader for the ancient's assault force. The first thing I want to cover is the giant cog on his stomach. To do this I file it down flush and then, cutting down the back of it also take the gut plate from the new wolf sprue with the single knife and afix this on top, linking up the wires and belt to the ends of the plate itself. For further wolf detail a take charms and teeth and add them under some of the large hanging plates on the runic armour. A runic charm and tooth under his left kneepad, a pair of teeth under the right arm which has just been attatched to the minature stock. These I intend to paint as metalic where the rest of the army has them in stone - showing his iron priest heriatage and also that it's runic armour so he gets a psychic save.

The right arm however presented a slightly larger problem. Armed as he is with a thunder hammer, servo arm and a bolter I wanted the servo harness which the minature comes with to have at least two of these. I was tempted to put both CC weapns on the harness but as the thunderhammer is double the Ironpriest's strength this seemed a little off. I decided instead to use the rather nicely artificed right handed space wolf thunderhammer. As my asyute readers will already have noticed the right arm has already been attatched so we'll need to find an alternative option. Using the spare left arm from the two handed frost axe (it's been given one handed to my runpriest as he's awesome enough to do so) and with the arm and fingers cut off of the thunder hammer it was neatly positioned under the wolf pelt shoulder pad. I then used platicard to build a back to the hand and wrist and a thumb on the opposite side to turn it into a left hand. Spiffy.

The servo harness was then attacked. I've chosen to use the larger servo arm from the regular techmarine which is longer than the stumpy loading one the thunderfire techmarine has and mounted this above the right shoulder - simply job of just trim down the mounting lug and glue on. The left hand arm was to be mounted with a bolter. I took the plasma cutter arm from the thunderfire techmarine and trimmed it back to the arm itself. Taking a bolter from a previous deathwatch experiment I trimmed down the back of this, took off the trigger and guard and then pinned it to the arm which was then affixed to the harness over the left shoulder. I then added some frippery in the form of charms and a wolf tail.

I've not attatched the harness yet as it'll get in the way of painting so i'll do the two separtatley and then attatch it. I think he needs a little more wolf fur on him around his belt on his right hand side to balance the fur on the right shoulder. Other than that I think he looks pretty spiffy ;)

In addition to this I've worked on some of the combi-boltpistols which I'm going to be using for my valkeries...got three done cut and glued so far - will be drilling them once they're dry - only another 4 pairs and 2 flamers to go. Not quite sure how I'm going to do the twin hand flamers...suggestions welcome.

lol...edited to take out the word small from the type of update...seems a bit wrong looking at it ;)

So some more games under my belt, victories at 2500 vs flesh terrers using regular marines rules and then a bit of blue on blue vs wolves with 3 tooled up terminator lords riding around in 2 Land Raiders with gigantic flamers. Left him with 1 imobilised Raider on the table with a Ven Dread walking up to it on kill points!

However...then got home (well after the pub until 1am or so....and on a school night too) and having borrrowed a mate's digicam thought I'd put up some pics of the things I'm working on. Aslo seems I took a couple of shots of the game as well...enjoy :)

Sorry about the yellowness - things were being washed out with the flash on the macro. Will see if I can get some pics in daylight at some point

Arjac and his grey hunteer budddies assault the land raider....fail. However the lord jumps out and the countercharge kills him and half hhis unit for the loss of all of the grey hunters and one wound on arjac.....and he still wins the combat!

:)

Heya,

Playing 2-3 games a week at the moment with an extra 250 points per week adding to the lists...is hectic! Started to 500 points now on 2500

As to Bjorn podding...Dreadnought drop pod from forge world IA rules. 50points, no weapons and it's transport option for all dreads...with an assault ramp :)

Nice, I'm looking forward to using those rules, they feature in IA:Apocalypse 2 I believe as well.

lol...that is quite entertaining....unless they start in reserve of course ;)

Had the same issue with bjorn - single drop pod came down, did bugger all and then his army came on and shot his legs out from under him :P

who'd have thought drop pods were hit opr miss!

I've also got my valkeries I'm working on for my LPC and also there's the possibility of me redoing my exterminator in my new lighter colours for the 3000 point list....either that or st celestine...not sure
