wolf363839
Just wondering what some of the great painters I've seen on this site use to get the "lined in" effect in the recessed areas of power armor. I am looking to improve my overall skills, so please give me some advice regardless of how long a technique takes or if it's only useful on certain models. Thanks guys! ikik
I use a detail or fine detail brush with thinned paint ( usually chaos black ) to shade recesses Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186696-painting-question-recessed-areas/#findComment-2207707 Share on other sites
Lord Scythican
A 005 Mircron ink pen works really nice. The usual, Base coat, Black ink wash, and then highlighting works really well too. Kenmichi
Depends on the area. Faces should get a very dark blue or purple to give them a more lifelike appearance. stinkenheim
be careful about adding purple wshes to faces it actually helps them to look dead (lloks like bruising) i found warm browns like dark flesh and scroched brown look nice as a shade for faces. for the armour i would paint it the basecoat colour of your army (assume shadow grey) then use a wash of brown or black. this can either be watered down paint or from the new washes. then build up the highlights leaving that colour showing in the recesses. if it isn't defined enough then add another wash into the recesses to add more shadow. the darkness of the wash and the brightness of the highlight should help to define the areas. Spacefrisian
Dipping the model(s) might be the easiest way. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186696-painting-question-recessed-areas/#findComment-2207760 Share on other sites
Stormbrow II
Citadel washes and the old inks. I prefer the inks because they're glossy, but layering and then washing with inks works best for me.
