ashrog
Safuma, king of the Umbati tribe and undisputed master of the southern grasslands, lounged on a throne of bone and ivory in his command tent. All around him, a regiment of royal guardsmen stood at attention, clad in bone armor, and carrying the wickedly barbed spears that were feared throughout his kingdom. He was to receive a visitor, and was set to impress this stranger with his power and splendor. "Bring him in," Safuma said to a cringing slave. He had heard much about this stranger. That he was a great hero from a distant land. Half-god. He had fallen from the heavens and fought against the thrice-damned soldiers from the "civilized" northern hive-cities. That he had stood atop a mountain of corpses and bellowed challenges and mockery at those who retreated. Safuma refused to believe most of the tales he heard. The were almost certainly the craven mewlings of cowards. But, if this man was half the warrior that the stories claimed. Safuma's thoughts were interrupted when the tent flap was suddenly pushed aside. He was utterly unprepared for what he saw. A true giant, a full head taller that even the largest of Safuma's warriors. He was clad head to toe in polished aquamarine plate armor that shone like gemstones. It was draped with skins and adorned with the skulls of his enemies. All of his questions and intimidation forgotten, Safuma could only manage, "What are you?" He managed to keep the fear from his voice. "You are the leader of these men, yes?" said the stranger. "You lead nobly, by strength of arms, not by petty politicking. You are a great warrior, but you have reached the apex of what you can accomplish. Come with me, I can make you more. I can make you like me. All I ask is that you bow, and kiss the ground upon which I stand." Safuma sprang to his feet, fear replaced by red rage. His hand flew to the hilt of his sabre. "Never! I bow to no man! I would die a king, rather than live a slave!" The stranger threw back his head in a massive belly-laugh, then unclasped his helm and tossed it aside. Safuma could see that he was smiling, revealing sharply pointed teeth. "A test, friend! You have courage, and the pride of a king. If you had bowed, I would have crushed you under my boot. Come with me, and never bow to any man again." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This thread will track the progress of my CSM warband, The Pride. They will have a lion-ish theme, possibly extending into other sub-Saharan African influences. The first thing I came up with was the color scheme. I wanted something unusual, considered yellow or orange. Finally settled on Hawk Turquoise as the main color. Here are two possibilities. Gold Trim: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y58/AshRogers/1.jpg or Steel: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y58/AshRogers/2.jpg The warband symbol will be a recolor of the Golden/Celestial Lions chapter symbol: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y58/AshRogers/pridesymbol.jpg Here are the guys I have assembled so far. Brother Loring
How about steel and saving the gold for elite units?? Nice 'fluff'! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186723-the-pride/#findComment-2208028 Share on other sites
Vlad III
Very good story. I do like the steel better. But perhaps either make the Hawk turquoise slightly darker, or the silver darker. Granted I doubt it'll be that bright with actual paint. I would personally make the silver darker, give it some contrast, and then you could have Elite units and leaders have either straight black, or you could Viva Metallica the black for their trim. I think it'd look sharp. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186723-the-pride/#findComment-2208341 Share on other sites
