DarkUncle2003 Posted December 8, 2009 Share Posted December 8, 2009 So I have been lurking a bit and doing a post here and there but I go to my hobby table and I see a bunch of one-off models from chapters of legend, or from ones which I have created. I am drawn to the history of the Imperial Fists and the Salamanders, but I have created armies of each. I don't want to paint more yellow (though I was thinking of Lamenters, but that is just yellow with a different badge). I favor veterans, especially sternguard. I enjoy fire-support and devestators, and I love razorbacks. I like small, mobile but a potent punch. I also enjoy the rules for Pedro (given that sternguard count for scoring). I have real trouble coming up with a color scheme that I like. So i'm finished trying to decide. I want you guys to pick something. My army is a Chapter Master (Pedro Cantor), 4 Honor Guard, 2 units of 6 converted sternguard, a Ven dread from FW, 3 Land Speeders, a 10 man Vanguard Vet squad with Jump Packs, 2 Tactical Squads of 10, A Count as Captain Lysander, a 6 man Bike Squad with Attack Bike, 2 6 man devestator squads, a Vindicator, 2 Rhino's, and 5 Razorbacks. I have a bunch of the new Crimson Fist pads and gear as well on order and a whole 10 man squad of the new Legion of the Damned. I like the Fist motif so I would like to use that as a chapter symbol. But I will paint all of this up in YOUR honor and will use YOUR fluff, if you are a fluff person, and enjoy creating and don't like painting, I could use a muse! Innus Bade 9 Posted December 8, 2009 Share Posted December 8, 2009 I would go with a successor to the Imperial Fists called "The Pain Glove" (See Below) or some variation of it. You could use the story of the Iron Cage as the source of their need to punish themselves for having the Ultramarines need to rescue them during the battle. The color scheme is hard. I think Black with yellow trim, Keeping the Red aquilla on the chest. Red inlet on shoulder pads w/ yellow trim. The Imperial Fists' over-zealous self-castigation. They often make use of a device called the Pain Glove, which encases the whole body and stimulates pain neurons. The Imperial Fists constantly feel the need to punish themselves for the smallest inadequacy, failure or infraction. The holiest relic of Rogal Dorn, his skeletal hand, is displayed in their fortress monastery as a reminder of the ultimate dedication required of the Space Marines. peers Posted December 8, 2009 Share Posted December 8, 2009 although probably not in the right forum B) , you seem to have answered your own question in my eyes , Crimson fists is the most obvious chapter to choose due to : you like pedro's rules ( their chapter master ) depleted chapter strength - more veterans and smaller squads -> more use for razorbacks you like the fist emblem ( same chapter symbol with different colouring - being an imperial fist sucessor ) for the colour scheme and background : http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Crimson_Fists if you have already discounted this scheme, some of this chapters fluff would help pedro's rules fit your DIY army i think ? Octavulg Posted December 8, 2009 Share Posted December 8, 2009 The argument for Crimson Fists does seem like a good one. Alternately, look through the Liber Astartes section of the Librarium. I didn't spot any chapters with particularly noticeable iconography, but you might see something you like. Just PM the author before you use his chapter (though speaking personally, I'd be flattered as all hell if anyone used mine for their chapter. However, none of mine use fists). I am pretty good at painting and converting but I can't find any inspiration. I would even be willing to take color scheme suggestions. I am not a big crimson fist fan because of the color scheme. The chapter is pretty cool. I can do something different than fists for the chapter symbol, I would just have to practice with my GS work a little. I was hoping someone would plug their own DIY chapters, give me a few choices. I am happy with the suggestions so far please keep them coming. Bloodhowl Posted December 8, 2009 Share Posted December 8, 2009 I have no links to doom guard or soul drinkers but I do have some ideas to help you: -go through all space marine codexes looking at the list's of each one's second founding chapters, -look through the horus heresy art book and do a, dare I say it, pre-heresy army (maybe even the Imperial Custodes?) -search space marine online and rip some one off, -pick a colour you like and work from that on the space marine painter on this site, In my opinion I've always liked the idea of Imperial Custodes or an army using the Black Templar upgrade pack, crusading marines maybe. sgtNACHO Posted December 8, 2009 Share Posted December 8, 2009 Raven Guard? Sure your not using shrike, but you seem to want fast agile firepower, seems fairly Raven Guardish. Of course Blood Angels are the master of fast moving shooty/assaulty armies :) But raven Guard are good too. Other then that if you want some paint scheme ideas, Light Blue with white trim Grey with Red trim and Yellow shoulders. Brown and Yellow trim. The Star Blazers Knights Errant Howling Fists Not real chapters just ideas that came to mind. I often find that its easiest to just pick up a scheme and a name either randomly or based off of something you've seen for inspiration. What is their chapter badge? just an eagle? Any hints on how to paint that freehand? Eye color of the raven guard is red or blue? and are they pretty codex as far as their chapter markings? T0MMY Posted December 9, 2009 Share Posted December 9, 2009 I think raven guard are mainly portrayed as fast attack orientated, "lightening assault" and then disappear types - especially when associated with Shrike. I guess this would mean they wouldn't use many dreadnaughts or devastators. There's no reason why the other companies within the raven guard might not be more codex orientated though. I was tempted to collect them (because I love jump packs) but was put off by the black armour. I'm collecting an eagle warriors task force now (also based around razorbacks) beacuse the armour (split blue / white) was a good challenge. Also means I can use the codex SM in terms of organisation but orientate the task force towards assault. I'm working on the fluff that they are hunting for something - similar to the fluff behind the white scars master of the hunt, etc. Sorry for the waffle, essentially I'm just trying to say you can pick pretty much any colour scheme, just make up some fluff as to why your army is arranged the way it is ;) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Something like the White Minotaurs (gold armour with red shoulder inserts), Iron Fists (metal armour with gold arms and chapter icon - a fist just like you wanted), Death Eagles, Emperor's Spears, Iron Lords (use a fist as an icon), Subjugators (their fist symbol is slightly different but what the hey) or Taurans (a very nice two tone black and bone scheme). DarkUncle2003 Posted December 26, 2009 Author Share Posted December 26, 2009 A bit of an update since we are snowed in pretty heavy in the midwest, and i'm still stuck at work. Seriously, who is going to come buy cell phones today!!! The main dread is complete. Two things I still need to do are the back with the vents and the smoke launcher. The bases I'm doing are going to be using are simple coblestones with some grass made from plasticard and flock. Very flat but vibrant enough to bring out the white. I am trying to decide if I should do a bit of glow from the lenses or if I should leave them without it. I think it might make the model too busy.
