Space Wolves Dreadnought Conversion questions

So, I'm planning a dreadnought conversion, and it being a Space Wolf, it has to have claws ^_^. My problem, is that I hate how everyone does the "finger claws", all I can think of when I see them is I detest them, and they make me think of a trashy woman I saw in Walmart with 12" fingernails :lol: . So, I was planning on building the dreads claw to look like a normal-ish lighting/wolf claw. Also, I'm planning on making him larger, and more humanoid in proportions, I think I might use a defiler kit (of course removing chaos stuff). I am thinking of building his right hand to look like a hand and have him wielding his plasma cannon like a pistol or normal gun. So I'm wondering what your guys opinion is on this and whether or not you think people would go'

" ZOMG! Thats sooooo stupid and not wolfy!"

BTW any suggestions for wolfy vehicle or dread bits to make him wolfy? :huh:

If you're good with plasticard and have a healthy bits box, you could make a mini-sized (but still big) version of the Chaos Reaver Titan's Power Claw:

It sounds like you want to make a mini Titan instead of a Dreadnought anyways. :)

@SamaNagol@ There is a Bjorn boxed set?

LOL I dont want him that big, I was just thinking about using the defiler kit for his legs and/or arms. Thank you for the pics, and yes Like the titan's or the standard lightning claw style. I have thought about making the fist with plasticard but I am no good at cutting it. :D

@Grey Mage@ No, I don't. :P

I would have to say no-thanks to that kit especially since its metal. I'm planning to do extensive conversions on the pose and positioning of the body, as well as converting his limbs.

To give you guys a better idea of what I'm after, here is a description;

-I want him to charging (actually running, not walking) with his right shoulder forward, as if he turned his left back to avoid incoming fire.

-I want to have his right arm up, holding his plasma cannon in a mechanized hand, like its a pistol, raised and taking aim, and his left hand back and clenched.

-Im also wanting him to have a FW like sarcophagus, and look very well taken care of, best in scanners and comms and other good tidbits, in fact I plan on him being Bjorn.

I think what you are describing is "Gundam". I hope you can pull off this ambitious "vision" of yours.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Absolutely noooo Gundam! Never!

i have actually been working on a conversion, where my dred would be a little taller, but more slender, but it would look like a werewolf (a good example is a worgen from WOW), in something like the pose you described, but the gun will still be part of the arm. if i ever finish it, or my lord for that matter, i will post it on here for all to see.

but it sounds like you are describing something like this guy.

Haha yes, that would be the photo of inspirartion, I have searched far and wide to find it though, thanks :P . And good luck to you on the wulfen dread, sounds cool, and similar to my idea (in proportions at least) ;) .

===Edit=== I'm actually thinking about using that as the base model now....

@Warhorse47@ I thought it would to :D .

Look up wolf lord Mjolnirs army for the tempus fugitives campaign, he has a FW dread he converted into an IC that should give you alot of pointers/inspiration.

Unless you want it significantly taller than a regular dread be careful with the defiler legs. I'm pretty sure there's a tutorial in the pca forum for a bipedal defiled, so that might be handy for you.

How do you plan on doing the gun arm?

Defiler claws for DCCW definitely gets nice remarks when fielding it on the table

Here is a WiP issue of the one I made, a bit easier to see then the completed image

Wow, thanks for all the great feedback yous guys! :blink:

As I am getting more responses on the design, I will try to post up the drawings I've made (lol if you can call them that).

@Rindaris@ I don't think I want to use the defilers arms, just maybe a set of the smaller legs for the dreads legs.

@Prosedragon@ That is a factor I have been thinking about... I'm still thinking... ;). And as far as the gun-arm, I'm planning on using plasticard to build the shoulder, as it is relatively simple, but I expect to make a few tries before getting it right. I still want it to look like a dreadnought though, so I've got the basic ddesign on paper, but going about it will be interesting...

@Lord Scythican@ Actually that is pretty similar to what I had in mind, thanks for the link :cuss .

@Grey Mage@ Going to search, in three, two, one... ;)

===Edit=== This one by chance? :ph34r:

Ok here are the drawings I promised earlier. Keep in mind though please, I wasn't exactly able to get my "vision" on to paper. The proportions are off, and I imagined him leaning more into the charge, and turning and leading with his right shoulder, like the Hellblade linked above. I also haven't figured out where to put the heavy flamer yet...

So again not the image like it is in my head, but as close as I can draw it, any opinions or comments are welcome.

===Edit==@Prosedragon@ I looked at the tutorial, and I think I have a better understanding of the defiler kit and the parts sizes. I would definitely only be using the little legs for the legs if I go that route, as thats allot skinnier than I imagined <_< .

Are you set on him holding the gun? You might have an easier time with his arm just ending in the gun, but it would look great either way. Dreadnought arms' lack of mobility has always bothered me, and that looks to be one of the things you're trying to correct - I hope it works out, I'd love to see it.

Will you be using regular dreadnought shoulders? I know they're kind of bulky, but once you slim the sarcophagus down and make him a little more proportionate I think it'll resembe a marines profile, with respect to the bulky shoulderpads anyway, which might be a cool effect.

Do you want the sarcophagus with the head? If so there's a tutorial to make one using a terminator front torso on a black reach dread, which might save you some time and/or effort. In fact, looking at your pictures, you might cut the wire parts away from the sarcophagus, file the front down like in the tut, and glu it back together-that would definitely reduce the width, and with making it taller you may not need to reduce the thickness.

This is a cool idea, I hope it works out.

Here's a fist I built for my dreadnought out of dread parts and plasticard. With some time, you can get some decent results without having to track down parts from a bunch of different kits. I modeled it with a Terminator powerfist in mind, while keeping the cutting and messing about with the main arm of the dread to a minimum.

@Prosedragon@ Answer#1.) Yes, I would like to have him holding the gun, and I plan to magnetize his hand so I could have him use any weapon options. And I do want him to be "flexible".

#2.) I plan on making the shoulder pads out of plasticard, I haven't come up with a design yet though. And The whole theme of the dreadnought is for him to be ancient, yet state of the art, and built and maintained to the highest degree, as I plan on using him as Bjorn, so I want it to be like he really is just in a bigger, better body.

#3.) I do want a sarcophagus with a head, thats why I plan on using Forge World's world eaters dreadnought. I have seen that tutorial, and long ago I was one of the original posters in it -_-.

===Edit==@Iacton Qruze@ Wow, thats actually just like what I had in mind, except without claws :P !

The link that I posted is up to $173.49. I think that if you make one similar to that, you should sell it to buy enough parts to make three more. I can't wait to see what your's looks like!

LOL! Great idea! :)

Okay so Ive been working on the design details, but I'm still kind of undecided on things like the forearm and leg design, I'm open to suggestions <_< . I'm now thinking about

converting a pair of normal dreads to be his buddies, I'm thinking of doing something similar with the guns and sarcophagus.
