Space Wolves Dreadnought Conversion questions

Here's a fist I built for my dreadnought out of dread parts and plasticard. With some time, you can get some decent results without having to track down parts from a bunch of different kits. I modeled it with a Terminator powerfist in mind, while keeping the cutting and messing about with the main arm of the dread to a minimum.

That just looks awsome!

Okay I *think* I have most of the body design worked out, but now I'm working in the weapon design. Does anyone else think that these assault cannon barrels are suitably bad as for this conversion :) ? But I'm still unsure how to build the back of it, whereas the plasma cannon was pretty much ready to be pistolized.

Im talking about the scratch mad Baal predators and the leman russ punisher.

And again, little details will probably be what I need help on the most, like pelts or other relatively small wolfy bits. Links to tutorials, pics of yours or others models, just about anything could help.

im working on my ven dread (there are pics of it in the link in my sig) that i going to use an underslung punisher gattling cannnon as his assault cannon. i've got the parts ready, i just haven't got round to finishing it yet. the cannon is a decent size, although depending on how you mount it it may be too low and scrape the models base. if your careul and plan it out then there shouldn't be a poblem.

i like the look of that hand by the way, very nice. similar idea to how my dreads hand is going although yours has chunkier fingers

Thanks, Ive noticed that ever since that tut started everyone loves that type of sarcophagus :) . I like the hand, I myself want to keep the fingers squarish, and be built like the reaver titans hand, or a normal powerfist/lightning claw. Do you have any pics yet of what that gatling gun looks like next to your dread? :)

i can tack them on some time over the weekend if you want. also the fingers needed to be more slender for the other hand, its going to be modelled like a terminator holding an assault cannon so the thicker squatter fingers wouldn't have looked right. there some GS work to be done on the hands but i've gotten side tracked with trying to improve my painitng so i kinda stopped my conversions...
Oh, so the tubing is merely a base right now until you bulk them up with GS :) ? I have given thought to the gun arm's fingers being smaller, I actually thought about using a regular clenched powerfist as that hand.

sound interesting, not sure how the sizes would compare... definately worth investigating.

yeah the fingers on mine are currently wire wth hollow plasticrod over them so i can pose them. i then have to do ribbing on the inside, kind of like the joins between space marine arour. then bulk out the armoured half of the fingers and add knuckels to it. they'll probably have a more curved finger tip than the pointed tips in the pics above but i won't know for sure until i finish the rest of the conversion.

lol, you could be waiting a while, i have a few figures from a company called avatars of war that im painting... i really need to improve :) still theres a goblin king waiting on my desk so i must bid you farwell for today

Okay, this is NOT off topic:

AVATAR WAS THE MOST AMAZING MOVIE IV'E SEEN! And has totally solidified my idea of dreadnoughts holding their guns, you will know what I mean if you've seen the previws or the movie.

I have run into certain snags that I could user help with. Whereas certain weapons would be easy to mount onto a hand, like plasma cannons or heavy bolters, Im having issues with how to design the actual gun, not the barrells of; Autocannons, assault cannons, lascannons, missile launchers, and the side mounts(storm bolter/heavy flamer) on the fist. Any help, especially in the form of visual representation or reference would be really helpful.

i lied, kind of... but here are the pics. sorry about the delay

its going to be mounted like a terminators assault cannon (so the hand will be on a trigger with a bit of palting over it and the weapon will have a magazine of some sort added on which will extend it back to around the elbow). I used the same arm (siesmic hammer) to make both arms so that they looked similar. its part of the reason its dropped lower than it would otherwise.

note, very, very rough placement so it may be moved back or forward depending on final design.
