Dirty Dogs!

Hello there!

I've been doing the same thing :P as you may have seen my razorback.

A great and easyw ay is a mud-wash (I use Vallejo brown (calthan brown would also work fine) + a dot of chaos black + Klear floor polish + water) you want a very thin consistency, and apply it after painting armour/metal/ base colours etc. and then apply a second lighter coat when the model is complete. I also mix up a karker/less watered version for carefully 'splattering' onto the lower legs.

Hope that helps! (p.s. I then build up to sand - because I'm going for desert world, but you wouldnt need that  )

Hey! i've been trying to do this myself.

What i've gone for is a brown ink in the receses of the armour and battle damage (mainly bullet holes) which are done with a drill and a modelling knife, i think it look pretty effective.

Doesn't take long to do and i think it gives them a mroe battle ready, grimy look.

Hope this helps, if you want any advice on bullet holes etc feel free to PM me, will help as much as i can.

Good luck.

I think ithe company Vallejio (or atleast some other model company) makes different sorts of effect acrylics.

basically they are pre mixed mediums.

eg;

smoke

sand

dirt

wood

cracks

they are used mainly for the ww2 line of games and models, so you get a good effect just by brushing on the medium.

I little too shiny for battle hardened. I would say use a Testor´s matte spray on them to cut down on the bling effect.

I might look into that, thanks, though looking at them i get the feeling a lot of the shine is due to my poor photography skills, sitting on my desk now they don't look as shiny as they do in that pic.
