Thunderpup
I want my packs to look battle hardened and war dirty. Can anyone point me to some good tutorials for muddy-ing up my infantry and vehicles? Thanks, Pup Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186922-dirty-dogs/ Share on other sites
antique_nova
i can't find tutorials, but the GWS vehicle mud track techniques/ weathering techniques could easily be applied to non vehicle models in the same way. thanks antique_nova Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186922-dirty-dogs/#findComment-2210979 Share on other sites
nurglespuss
Hello there! I've been doing the same thing :P as you may have seen my razorback. A great and easyw ay is a mud-wash (I use Vallejo brown (calthan brown would also work fine) + a dot of chaos black + Klear floor polish + water) you want a very thin consistency, and apply it after painting armour/metal/ base colours etc. and then apply a second lighter coat when the model is complete. I also mix up a karker/less watered version for carefully 'splattering' onto the lower legs. Hope that helps! (p.s. I then build up to sand - because I'm going for desert world, but you wouldnt need that  ) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186922-dirty-dogs/#findComment-2211061 Share on other sites

Brother Nbolo
Hey! i've been trying to do this myself. What i've gone for is a brown ink in the receses of the armour and battle damage (mainly bullet holes) which are done with a drill and a modelling knife, i think it look pretty effective. http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac124/Nbolo/Photo0130.jpg Doesn't take long to do and i think it gives them a mroe battle ready, grimy look. Hope this helps, if you want any advice on bullet holes etc feel free to PM me, will help as much as i can. Good luck. Brother Nbolo
Thanks for the kind words, i always thought marines should look a bit more damaged and dirty than the ones you see on the GW site. Hope this provides some inspiration. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186922-dirty-dogs/#findComment-2212691 Share on other sites
Veldrik
I think ithe company Vallejio (or atleast some other model company) makes different sorts of effect acrylics. basically they are pre mixed mediums. eg; smoke sand dirt wood cracks they are used mainly for the ww2 line of games and models, so you get a good effect just by brushing on the medium. I would say use a Testor´s matte spray on them to cut down on the bling effect. lunchb0x
USE PIGMENTS. [/thread] Seriously, using pigments is awesome, youtube " using pigments " and check out the work they do on military vehicles. I use them for all my guard bits ive been painting as of late. I might look into that, thanks, though looking at them i get the feeling a lot of the shine is due to my poor photography skills, sitting on my desk now they don't look as shiny as they do in that pic.
