SamaNagol
I was recently unable to make it to the GT Heat 3 due to work commitments and was pretty cheesed off about it, so I put my Daemonhunters army down for a minute. I have since decided to come back to it at a later date so I can give it the personalisation and attention I feel it deserves. So as a build up to that, I am going to go through this huge stack of Space Wolves stuff I have sitting here in a pile. I've always been a fan of the Space Wolves and they were my first real army back when their Codex came out in 3rd Edition after buying random squads of various races for a couple of years. The one thing I like about their new Codex is the wide number of entirely viable army builds there are. You can literally go in one of half a dozen different direction with this Codex. I would say it is one of the most well balanced codices in print when it comes to viability of the many different units. There's practically no redundant choices which is a refreshing change. I have decided to do 3 different 1500 pt forces using the stuff I have at my disposal and may well do some extra bits and pieces as I go along for fun. Hopefully by the time I'm done all 3 they will have some Thunderwolf Cavalry up on Forgeworld and I can go to town on those as well. So the first army I am going to work on is a pretty basic one focussing on mechanized troops. Wolf Priest in a Crusader with 14 Blood Claws with PFist & Flamer and a WG with Thunder Hammer and Storm Bolter 10 Grey Hunters in a Rhino with Meltagun, Plasma Gun, P Fist Banner and a MOTW. 5 Grey Hunters with a Meltagun and a WG with Combi-MElta/PFist in an T/L Assault Cannon Razorback 5 Grey Hunters with a Meltagun and a WG with Combi-MElta/PFist in an T/L Assault Cannon Razorback 2 x Land Speeders with 2 Multi Meltas 1500pts Nothing too fancy. Quite versatile, reasonably competitive against everything. I had a load of 'running' legs left over and used a bunch of them for the Blood Claws. Just finished assembling them and spraying them up so will continue to update as I go. Hopefully it stays nice and regular as I should have lots of free time over xmas. Grey Mage
1) Drop a Bloodclaw and get the BCs WG some TDA. Its a lifesaver. 2) Use those points to give your Wolf Priest a WTT. 3) Drop the Plasmagun... never a good idea to mix rapid fire and assault weapons, a second melta, or a flamer, would work out well. 4) Personal Preference- I would drop a MM on each Landspeeder, and get a HF instead to increase their flexability and to give you something to root out those pesky scout/sniper types. Also delicous against tau *wich I personally seee constantly*. Then use the 30pts you have left to give the razorback packs Powerweapons. 5) Alternatively, use that 10pts to give your larger rhino squad a Wolf Banner. SamaNagol
Sorry, wasn't really looking for C&C but thanks for your input. I appreciate it! The TDA for the WG is a no brainer really, how foolish of me. I think it is actually cheaper too! I had a nice model built for it though, but I am sure I can use him elsewhere. The GH unit in the Rhino is meant to be a take and hold unit, so the Plasma Gun is for keeping things away from objectives, not pushing them off. They also already have a banner. I would rather keep the Land Speeders specialised, as there is nothing more annoying than rolling up on a Land Raider and failing to hit with that solitary Multi Melta. Grey Mage
Fair enough... dont know how I missed that banner :S. So, just giving us a heads up? Ahh- I see the link now, and another in your sig. SamaNagol
Well the link redirects to this thread and I intend to update it when I have stuff done. On further thought, if I put the WG in Terminator Armour, wouldn't that mean that the BC pack could no longer sweeping advance? You are correct, sir, however there is something to be said for looking freaking awesome. I recently had this same discussion with a friend of mine who plays BA about a Terminator Chaplain. -Huzzah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186933-new-blog-starting-3-space-wolves-armies-in-a-row/#findComment-2211311 Share on other sites
SamaNagol
I think I am going to stick with the list as it stands and run with it. Magnetise the Speeders for future-proofing and also if I need to do any extra special weapons, I can just build more figures to swap in and out. SamaNagol
Just updating with a WIP of my Wolf Priest half way through gap filling. Need to finish off the knee pads and smooth out the thighs. Add a Wolf tooth necklace, Roasarius and add on the cloak. Will be modelled with a cloak, apothecary backpack and his Mk4 helmet attached to his belt. I needed a suitably animated WP to fit in with my Blood Claws and felt that the wrist mounted Storm Bolter fit perfectly as it would mean he could swing that giant Crozius. That's made out of a Chaos Warrior axe, the head of a WG Thunder Hammer and the winged part of Ulrik's crozius, which I had laying around from 14 years ago. http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/Sa...ol/DSC00351.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186933-new-blog-starting-3-space-wolves-armies-in-a-row/#findComment-2218623 Share on other sites
Stormshrug
I like the dynamic pose. It really gives him a 'savagery' that separates him from, say, a stoic Ultramarines Chaplain. SamaNagol
Thanks! I really thought that a Wolf Priest charging out of a Land Raider wouldn't be in the same static pose as every other Chaplain out on the market, so I had to build one. I am going to have a go at putting some of the edging on the leg plates like the more traditional Chaplains. SamaNagol
Oh damn. I stuck it on because it just looked cool, but I just realised I am paying 3pts to get 1 less attack in CC on my Wolf Priest. Maybe I can just say it is a bolt pistol.... a wrist mounted twin barreled bolt pistol ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186933-new-blog-starting-3-space-wolves-armies-in-a-row/#findComment-2219069 Share on other sites

The sweet thing about the WP is that they are pretty much at their best with their basic load-out. Sagas and TDA is of course valid additions but I personally would never replace the bolt pistol on a PA WP. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186933-new-blog-starting-3-space-wolves-armies-in-a-row/#findComment-2219400 Share on other sites
SamaNagol
Just managed to salvage it and make a magnetised option of either a Plasma Pistol or a Bolt Pistol. Put the wrist mounted storm bolter on the Wolf Guard. Everyone's happy! SamaNagol
I now have 2 Wolf Priests undercoated along with their respective units of Wulfen and Blood Claws. Wolf Priest 1 you have seen above. Wolf Priest 2 was a pretty simple conversion but it think it tied in really nicely with the rest of the Wulfen unit with the Daemonette theme. Most of the Wulfen have simple conversions to change up the repeated poses. SamaNagol
Thanks very much. The thunder hammer wolf guard is made up mostly of plastic pieces. The right arm is the gauntlet and power axe from the Chaos Lord in power armour, with the axe head removed and replaced with an older metal Thunder Hammer taken from a terminator, which is of a smaller scale than the current ones, so it looks about right proportion wise. The storm bolter is from Logan and the rest is made up of plastic. Running legs from the Assault Marine sprue, chest is from the older Space Wolf sprue and I added the polo neck. I forget what the head is from, but I sculpted on the Wolverine burns and hair. SamaNagol
I just made a base layer for the fur cloak. Put some vaseline on a flat surface and spread the green stuff out across it in a very ruff cloak shape so it was nice and thin. Left it to dry over night. When it was cured I peeled it off the flat surface and the side which was 'down' was perfectly smooth. I trimmed it into shape and then bent it to look flowing. I fixed it to the points I wanted it to emanate from on the model and then filled the gaps with more green stuff. That left me with a pretty raggedy looking cloak with one side looking smooth, the other was lumpy and horrible. I 'painted' the lumpy side with a thin coat of superglue to get it to retain it's shape to hold the folds I had bent into it. When that was all dry and the gaps I filled had cured also, I then got some very soft green stuff using more yellow than blue and spread it across the back surface of the cloak. That was then worked into using a scalpel blade covered in a thin layer of vaseline to produce the fur texture. Then when that was all dried I cut slight tears and marks into the smoother underside of the cloak to make it look worn. I basically copied the effects from Ulrik the Slayer's cloak as best I could. It turned out ok!. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186933-new-blog-starting-3-space-wolves-armies-in-a-row/#findComment-2242543 Share on other sites
