Jaw not right? Rule wise?

Jotww fluff describes the ground splitting up and revealing the plaentes molten slag or whatever and the unfortunate people literally fall into a pit of doom that opens beneath them. i can understand that some units like jetbikes won't be affects and land speeders. But jotww should be able to down a rhino or a jump pack infantry because they all need ground.

anyone thought of that? i know jotww would be even more overpwoered but this is a perfect example of why fluff and rules don't seem to fit together for the GWS staff.

thanks

I think that pretty much sums it all up right there mate. Fluff and Rules have never, and will never, compliment each other perfectly - and in many cases, at all. JotWW is obviously already a powerful ability, and it needed to be limited in some way. Whether true to the fluff or not, Vehicles are the models to have been excused the big drop so to speak. If peoples highly expensive and much loved LR's also started to get mulched by it, I would expect SW players to have decidedly less players willing to game against them.

Well jump troops would use their jump packs to escape so it wouldn't work on them.

As for vehicles they don't have an initiative value ( well except for walkers) so they can't make the test. Also, maybe GW assumed the crack was to narrow for a tank to fall in but was just big enough for an MC to fall in.

Then again, we have a game where soldiers out in the open get cover saves because their buddies are hiding behind a rock so I am not sure we should expect the rules to always make logical sense. :)

p.s. have you seen the "checkerboard" save concept - talk about illogical.

the way i see it is even though a MC is huge, it still isn't 100% a ridged body. its arms, legs or even tail may move around as it falls, but it's mass also gives it a chance stop itself in the hole. where as a tank is a big ridge body. so it is less likely to just fall in.

i would have personally liked to have see vehicles as having to take a dangerous terrain test to save it's self. i also see it as being a opening about the size of a tyranid warrior, so anything bigger wouldn't be as likely to fall through.

Same reason tempests wrath only effects enemies and storm caller only effects freindlies, Same reason flesh hooks dont make Nids immune, and necrons dong just teleport back to monolith, a combination of space wolf powers being poorly exicuted, and rules being made for expediance of play over accuracy.
