Show me Your Ultimate Gaming Boards!

I finally began construction on my gaming table. Home to my Blood Angels. I've looked online for some suggestions, and not much comes up surprisingly. So I want to see what everyone is playing on. The first piece of terrain I want to build will be the stronghold that the mobile infantry from starship troopers fought in. But I need more ideas, specifically the colour of the table. So that's where you come in:

Heres my city board 6' X 4' still wip though

Pictures are from a battle report

all of the terrain is removable (except the kerbs and pavements)

Original plan was for a "early colony worlds first city" feel (hence the cheap prefabs in the background of the shots), but then out came all those nice new cities of death buildings (dang you GW) which are slowly being phased in (and even more slowly painted)

The new plan is for a still partially intact city with a sewer underneath it (5 or so movable manholes and the space hulk boards on a spare 2' X 4' board) and a city park/memorial garden

afterwards its an actual green hills and dales table (just for the novelty) and an ice world table

At my current rate of progress they will be done around 2020-ish

I plan to make 3 tables which all connect together for Apocalypse, maybe via bridges or teleporters etc. Anyway they are a volcanic planet with GREEN magma...yes GREEN magma.

Table 1) Chapter Fortress and wasteland-The fortress will take up about 1/4 of the table with the rest being wasteland and hills

Table 2) Ruined City- Using my Imperial City kit I'll make a large-ish city with a central square.

Table 3) City defences- the very end of the board will have some bastions and such and the rest will be rock valleys and such for the attackers to use as cover.

I will make the boards in reverse order, depending on if I can take them to Uni and time allowances.

I have built over 40 game tables of differing styles and levels of details over the years. Here are some pics of ones I built for a store this last year.

Cityfight table with cobblestone-style streets.

Same table with modular buildings added for a battle.

Chaos waste table with modular terrain.

Desert table with genaric terrain and Necron portal... all modular.

Iceland table with scattered terrain.

Area 51 / Runway table. There is more terrain for the table but some is still being built.

WWI-style trench table. Most of the terrain for this table consists of ruined vehicles, barbed wire obstacles, and burned out woods and building ruins.

Woodland table.

And here is a link to more pics of these tables including many from during the constuction process ( Photobucket album of my tables )

I hope these give you some ideas.

Sinsinatus

I decided on building an Apocalypse table to fit my available space...

I'ts three 6' x 4' tables that are designed to be correctly joined together for options of 12' x 6' or 18' x 4' or whatever, do the math

oh, and ignore the camera date... it's faulty... the table was built this year

Main frame completed (without table tops)

Using a number of 2' x 2' MDF tiles as the building base for CoD or other terrain...

http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/oo141/Karsrkinmik/100_0508.jpg

And using two sets of Realm of Battle Gameboards...

Arrangement 1:RoB down both sides - River / roadway / pipeline setup

http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/oo141/Karsrkinmik/100_0514.jpg

Arrangement 2: Rob at one end - City / fortress

http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/oo141/Karsrkinmik/100_0509.jpg

Arrangement 3: RoB encircling - Outpost / mission objective

http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/oo141/Karsrkinmik/100_0505.jpg

And many more arrangements are possible - I have 12 tiles of RoB and 18 MDF tiles (at the moment).

Plus all of this…

Mik

You can see my generic modular table on my website in my battle reports and I'll be making a new modular WW1 style trench table in the new year.

I think your Google Fu is weak. Go look what the historical guys do, Too Fat Lardies Summer Special had a detailed modular trench table build. Not how I'm doing mine, but some similiarities.

  • 2 weeks later...

@ Lord Castellan Mik : is there any opponent able to field as much models against your SM army (btw, I didn't see any Reaver, does he take cover behind the boxes :) ) The last time I saw so many models, it was ... Epic40K size :)

Good luck with all the assembling + paint !

Cpt Stahl.
