jimbo1701
Hi all, Finally got my thunderwolves through the post and have assembled them for the most part. If anyone's interested I got them from an ebay seller (Mrs Velard) and the quality is as good as if not better than forgeworld. Were shipped very well protected and with custom made marine legs to fit. Anyway, I've outfitted the squad and have a dilemma about the heads. My foot mounted wolf guard (4) currently have the plastic wolf head helmet, but I though it maybe more appropriate on these guys. As my complay is Harald Deathwolf's, I thought it may fit better to have the wolf heads on the cavalry. Opinions? http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t286/jimbo1701/tw002.jpg http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t286/jimbo1701/tw001.jpg http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t286/jimbo1701/tw004.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187152-thunderwolves-almost-complete/ Share on other sites
Godhead
I think they look fabulous. I have two on the way. How long did it take for you to get yours? I'd think these guys would look better with the bare heads. On the other hand, if all your wolfguard use the same helms, then it would be appropriate to have your TWC wearing the same thing. jimbo1701
Cheers, they came a lot quicker than I thought they would as they weren't marked as dispatched until last week. Packed safely in bubble wrap and plastic boxes - the detail has to be seen to be believed!! It would be a case of taking the wolf heads off of the wolf guard and replacing them with bare heads, so only one group gets to have all of the heads. I'm tempted to do it to make them more 'wolfy'. Can't wait to get them sprayed up. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187152-thunderwolves-almost-complete/#findComment-2214030 Share on other sites
Hear da Lamentation
I've done a search on ebay for these - can't find any mrs velard. Any pointers? These looks EASILY the best thunderwolves I've seen. With the added marine legs, their surely a no brainer. Custodian Athiair
same i want some. even though i don't have any TWC planned in my army, but i still want some do you think they could be used for Fenrisian Wolves (if not any tips for what can be used as Fenrisian Wolves) thanks Athiair ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187152-thunderwolves-almost-complete/#findComment-2214228 Share on other sites
jimbo1701
Hi guys, They are very impressive I must admit. Here's a comparison pic between a regular GW wolf and my Ragnar: http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t286/jimbo1701/tw.jpg Note ragnar's slightly taller due to a scenic base. They're a lot larger than I think a fenrisian wolf would be and there'sa saddle and armour built into them. Here's a link to the Ebay item which shows a painted one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWNX:IT And here's the sellers items. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/mrs-velard/m.html?_...p;_trksid=p4340 In fact, they've just put more on there so I'd get in quick before they go: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Space-Thunder-Monstr...=item3a55d406ad It took about 2 weeks to dispatch but then was here within a week and was all packaged professionally and sent by insured post. Think the wolves are about $12 with a reasonable shipping rate. Wolf Guard Hengist
Are those legs cast into the model or do you convert them yourself? Only reason I ask is they are the same colour as the wolf. jimbo1701
Hi pal, They come in 3 parts: the majority of the wolf, the legs and the wolf's lower jaw (?) I stuck the marines together but won't attach them to the wolf until they are painted. nurglespuss
OK the wolves are pretty good (face a bit cartoony though), but to be honest those legs are in some very odd positions in those photos (look more like how saurus warriors ride coldones), not natural at all... I like them, but if those legs come with the model, then the maker has blatantly copied or recast GW material which is no good for our hobby. HMMmmmm would you be able to remove their heads to give them some different ones, and a bit of variation. The legs do resemble SM legs - not sure if they correspond to actual SM legs that have been chopped and recast or whether or not they were sculpted from scratch. When I tried to put SM squatting legs or biker legs on they just didn't fit so I'm glad they included them anyway. As the heads are all integral it's difficult to vary any parts apart from the riders unless you GS some mechanical parts over the top. There may be some IP issues with the legs, but I for one am happy that at least someone is providing fans with a cost-effective way to represent a unit in a codex. i.e. one that doesn't involve buying £125 worth of hard to assemble, monopose metal with integrated riders. (GW so should have invested in that plastic mold, as I dare say almost as many people will be investing in Thunderwolves as WG termies) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187152-thunderwolves-almost-complete/#findComment-2214939 Share on other sites
nurglespuss
Hells yeah, i can't wait for GW to release thunderwolves, I'm figuring itll be in wave 2 next year :( (probably after an article on how to convert them :P ). Hmmm still a problem with IP even if they were sculpted legs, 'cause they were sold for cash... I think thats a good idea of yours to add bionic bits to individualise them a little more ^_^, not sure if you could do this, but modelling a couple to have their mouths shut might work too ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187152-thunderwolves-almost-complete/#findComment-2214942 Share on other sites
jimbo1701
Hells yeah, i can't wait for GW to release thunderwolves, I'm figuring itll be in wave 2 next year  (probably after an article on how to convert them :P ). Hmmm still a problem with IP even if they were sculpted legs, 'cause they were sold for cash... I think thats a good idea of yours to add bionic bits to individualise them a little more :D, not sure if you could do this, but modelling a couple to have their mouths shut might work too :P I did think about doing bionic eyes and perhaps lower jaw on one or two of them. Different colour fur and different scenic bases is the easy way out which I may go with. Got a Canis in the post and so will put up pics of them side by side next week for people to compare. Funnily enough I just checked the Ebay page and there's no metion of the legs (I was pleasantly surprised when I saw them included) and so maybe that's how they're getting around the IP - not selling them as such but rather including them as a free gift? Is that still illegal? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187152-thunderwolves-almost-complete/#findComment-2214984 Share on other sites
nurglespuss
I think so, 'cause your still 'supplying them' even if your giving them away gratis :) But hey ho! I think i may pick up one for a look, do you have a link to where I can buy one? I can't find them on ebay :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187152-thunderwolves-almost-complete/#findComment-2215026 Share on other sites

Godhead
I just got mine in the mail, and WOW I think they look great. Super good quality. I mean i'm terribly excited and i'm probably going to pick up a few more. Even if they eventually come out with GW approved ones, these models are really nice and worth keeping around IMO. rangemaster
What's the deal with the GW and thunderwolves? they can't expect people to buy canis wolfborn 5 times and make it into a squad. this was poor planning on their part. the models are amazing great job! but i won't be using these because i plan to play tourneys in the future and don't want to buy something i can't use. again props Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187152-thunderwolves-almost-complete/#findComment-2215335 Share on other sites
Prophecy
Just because I haven't seen anyone post it here yet, the actual seller's link is http://www.maxmini.eu/store/index.php?main...;products_id=81 Maxmini sculpted and sells them from their site. I got mine in the mail a few days ago. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187152-thunderwolves-almost-complete/#findComment-2215344 Share on other sites
Godhead
Actually no. The max minis are a different model. I'd like to get one just to see how it looks, but its almost 2x the price of the wolves pictured here. These ones came from Russia. Godhead
yea, but different enough to make a squad so as to not all be the same MUHAHAHAHA  (not sure whats wrong with me tonight) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187152-thunderwolves-almost-complete/#findComment-2215528 Share on other sites
SamaNagol
lol@sculpting armoured legs being an IP infringement. That would get laughed out of any court in the world. Grey Mage
Except those look exactly like SM legs. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187152-thunderwolves-almost-complete/#findComment-2215672 Share on other sites
Prophecy
Nah, look at the knees. There are enough differences that they'd at least have a case. Not saying they'd win, but it might be worth less to GW to go after them than they'd get. Grey Mage
Look like armored kneecaps, just like a SM would have but *shrugs* I really dont care. Id say if you wanted to, Jimbo, that putting the wolf heads on them would make alot of sense, giving some cohesion to the unit.
