I need a hammer

Personally I dont often make hammer units.

 

Id would rather have several well kitted out units so that all my units are all nasty and spread the points around.

 

That way the guy im playing does not have a clear choice of target.

And if i get some bad rolls and lose a unit i still have my other units remaining.

 

 

This is just IMO of course.... Though I do see how a nasty Hammer units can be epic fun!

 

I have run this unit though.

 

Land raider crusader + multi melta + extra armor

x6 WG + TDA

x2 PF & SB

X2 PW & SB

X1 WC & AC

X1 upgraded to Arjac this was a very nasty unit.

Very shooty, very CC as well.....

10 wolf guard: 10 powerswords.

 

On the charge thats a potential 6 strenght 5 initiative 5 attacks each! Add on Ragnars potential 8 strenght 6 initiative 6 and you have a unit quite capable of reducing anything it charges into a pile of quivering viscera :D

Or you can run Ragnar + 9WG

 

Give each WG a combi-melta and power weapon then pack them all into a Rhino + EA and it is 592 total

 

Or you can drop pod them and swap out some meltas for plasmas and lower the cost to 577 but they need to survive the counter attack before they can assault

Why Combi-weapons and PWs? Seems like a waste of attacks... atleast make it wolf claws in that case.

 

For pure theory hammer power.

 

A ragnar led unit will be assaulting. Firing off the combi-meltas before going in adds major bite or allows you to pop open a high value transport to access the troops inside.

 

The power weapons allow you to slice through most armor at S5 I5 due to furious charge and insane bravado. You could make them all WC but that is an additional 90 points for the squad and may be overkill at that point.

 

 

 

I was thinking of other ways to strike before your opponent but it costs far too much.

A LRR that unloads Logan + 10 WG and combi-weapons is just under 800

 

Relentless from Logan + 10 rapid fire combi-plasmas will give you potentially 20 shots of S7 AP2 that hit at 3+ to soften up the target before you crash in with your normal attacks. You can consider that your melee upgrade allowing you to strike at better than initiative and ignore armor with a hit roll like a WTN.

 

This thread is like a bad drug habit...I am addicted to unit building and keep coming back haha
