I really want to paint my dread, but will have to wait till I get home (weathers just too bad, and the lights gone in my room!! - working under lamo lamp light!). OK, now these two pics don't contain power armour, but it will be a power armoured battle scene when finished (space wolves) the eldar is the first one I've painted in a loooong time, and will be kneeling in the centre passing the scroll onto a space wolf character. The theme of the piece will be 'betrayal'. http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs076.snc3/14340_372136725322_633810322_9880844_5380010_n.jpg - OK sorry for the terrible pic (lighting) its in very early stages yet, but will contain more tech, rubble, sand etc. and the alcoves are going to contain green LED's to trow up some 'up light'. There will also be a 'roof' of sorts, which may also incorporate a light. I'm going to try an include 4 interacting models altogether. http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs056.snc3/14340_372136705322_633810322_9880843_4642250_n.jpg OK the kneeling eldar is very WIP, but you get the general idea. I am considering modelling a 'window' into one of the rear monolith sides to allow an alternative view etc. anyway, I know its an odd one! but what do you think? (p.s. I've kept the original post below, so that this doesnt get too confusing :P) the drop pod idea was a dud. --------------------------------------------- Hi there guys, Well, on my return home the other day, I remembered a partialy made/sprayed monolith i had lying around, that I never thought I would ever use. We-ell, I'd had a few ideas previously about turning it into a drop pod (before the plastic one came out); Well i figured, give it a go!! So here are a few in progress shots. Its going to stay closed in-game, and will be used for drop-podding a venerable dreadnought, so perhaps the larger design fits? http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs056.snc3/14340_362602200322_633810322_9816741_289285_n.jpg thank you razor saw! http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs056.snc3/14340_362602210322_633810322_9816742_3988936_n.jpg http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs056.snc3/14340_362602215322_633810322_9816743_6055265_n.jpg http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs076.snc3/14340_362602225322_633810322_9816744_598966_n.jpg So, what would you do next? I'm going to cover any gaps with plasticard, and give it a more secure looking structured. I have some pieces ready for making boosters etc. I'm not sure about adding fins though.... Any ideas? thanks guys!! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187189-wip-battle-scene-blog/ Share on other sites
WG Vrox
Would be kinda cool for a Ven Dread, what do you have planned for doors? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187189-wip-battle-scene-blog/#findComment-2214505 Share on other sites
nurglespuss
hmmmm I agree that doors need to be modelled on... I can incorporate them easily enough, I think... Any ideas? Grey Mage
The plasticard covering the gaps could be made to look like hatches..... or in this case, fortress gates. nurglespuss
oooh yes ^_^ Great idea! play on the whole fortification looking theme :P Nice one Grey Mage! Would you add fins/stabilisers (like on current drop pod) or just add them to the upper portion? Grey Mage
Ever seen "babylon 5"? the thrusters on the starfuries is something Id do on each of the 4 "fins" at the top of the monlith.... directional thrusters, with a main thruster between them. Upscaled smokelaunchers might do the job. For fits, if I did them, theyd be smaller, and at the top continuing the corner of each of the top flanges instead of having thrusters there. Prosedragon
Nothing says venerable like falling through the sky, crashing screaming to the ground in your own customized pimp pod. All the other wolves are jealous that bjorn has the extended cab version, while they dont even have room to sit. Being old has it's benefits, and riding in style is one of them. That's a good idea, based on your past work I'm sure it'll look great, can't wait to see it. I'm just imagining Bjorn on an episode of "Pimp My Orbital Transport." Yo dawg, I put some acid in your pod so you can drop while you drop? nurglespuss
LOL cheers! :P Thanks prosedragon! right on the money :) Having had a day to think about it, I may be 'recutting it up' so that is can infact open and close. I'm not sure how yet, but will have a think :) C'mon clock, tick to 5 so I can go home and 'work' :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187189-wip-battle-scene-blog/#findComment-2215024 Share on other sites
Warhorse47
Maybe just extending in one direction? That way you can build the drop doors on the sides for Bjeorn. nurglespuss
Thanks guys :D Unfortunately, it didn't work out, I took it apart to model the inside (which looked great) and then tried to cut some doors. first one went great, but the next, yeuch! Never mind though. I've salvaged it and will use it to create a battle scene :) (involving eldar and space wolves) thanks for all your help guys! I've added drop pods to my christmas list! :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187189-wip-battle-scene-blog/#findComment-2215441 Share on other sites
Niiai
How bad did it break? You could try to make a two door drop pods. You would need to cut the sides so your are stick with a bocks that laks two walls. The forge world one only has 3 droos. I think two could do. You realy only need one door working as well. (It would be a pitty to ruin a whole monolith.) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187189-wip-battle-scene-blog/#findComment-2215519 Share on other sites
nurglespuss
No problem  Its inspired a new idea... and I can paint that dreadnought I should be working on instead!! Thanks! (new idea would involve 3 drop pods, but thats one for the future!)....
