Little Fenris

I finally painted my gaming board. It's the first piece of terrain I ever touched, so be gentle. The Space Wolves inspired me and I've got a favor for harsh and cold envoirments. I'm crossposting this from my WIP thread, so if thats real bad, close the thread. I just wanted to show the terrain for Space Wolves players, because a lot of people are only looking into this forum board here.

Love it. Especially the skulls in the ice hole. Do you have any kind of fluff story as to why they are there?

Edit: What is the size of that board?

Little known fact: "Little Fenris" is what Leman Russ called his penis.

Thansk! It's GW's 72" * 48" gaming table, I got last summer as present. And the little fact: I thought he called it "the great wolf"

I would say that your skull filled holes would really stand out a bit more if you found a clear resin to place in there to look more like they are under ice. Other then that, the rest of the board looks great.

It's clear water effect with snow on it. It looked to clean without the snow, as if it snowed all around it. I wanted to ad blister pieces as ice, but I was too cowardly.

I think it looks cool. Well done. ^_^

A bit off topic here, but since you have it, do you think it's worth buying the board (w.r.t quality), I mean if you hadn't got it as a present? It does cost 147 sterling. I could build 3 modular gaming boards with that money easily. They may not be as light and portable as the GW one you have. Maybe that is the advantage? What do you think ChaosPhoenix.

So you kind of skipped over it; is there a story as to why there are a bunch of skulls in an icy hole? Or just for the cool effect?

Simple answer "THIS IS FENRIS" ::Kicks Prophecy into the Pit of Death:

2ed in Command "Sir we talked about all the kicking into the the pit of death now havne't we?"

Tybrus " Yeah I guess so but he was asking for it, he asked about it twice"

2ed in Command " Come along sir its time for your meds"

Tybrus " MED's? THIS IS FENRIS" ::Kicks 2nd in command into the pit of death:

Tybrus " Umm 3rd in command you just got a promotion" :: walks off:: "I love the Pit of Death hehehehehe"...

True story, you should have heard all of his boasting about rolling on the penetrating table, ask Bjorn.

another little known fact: the "Saga of Russ" is actually a code word for the tales of Russ's conquests of Fenrisian Maidens, as told by Bjorn at each Great Feast.

Thanks for the replies. The ice got a second layer and it's dry in about 24h. I'll make more pictures of the ice then.

It's a cool effect, but maybe I find a bit of story to put into. It could be an Imperial Guard Platoon, who broke through the ice. Or it's the skulls of all GW employees who spilled to many secrets.

The quality is good. It's really sturdy and won't break by accident, at least if you don't melt the board. Most selfmade boards aren't that robust. You can easily transport it and it won't break. But for the money, you can really build 2-3 boards yourself.

Outside UK, we've got the advantage of ordering in UK. The euro to GBP exchange is really great. The prices are the same compared to other GW products, but the exchange rate isn't. A board costs about the same as 4 Land Raiders in every country. But with the exchange rate, I would only pay the price of 2 1/2 Land Raiders. For 2 1/2 Land Raiders or 120€ the board has a great value, but you could still make 2 boards yourself.

Overall the quality is really good, you save a lot of time and you've got a board you can take with you and won't break while transporting. I won't get another one, because I want different terrains, but one is good.

The Pit of Promotion ;). Maybe I should put up danger signs.

love the look of the board. On the skulls front I saw on the GW site today that someone had used green tinted water effect to make themm look submerged. I was thinking how cool it'd look if that was done on an ice boartd and for it to look like skulls trapped in an ice flow...

Thanks a lot ^_^. The only problem I have with it is, that the watereffect took the shape of the shape of the skulls on the 3rd picture. But anyway, I'm proud and gaming will be fun. For the forest: I thought of a mini-led-xmas-light for it... . If anyone of you wants to see my great shame, I'll post pictures of my mostly unpainted collection in my WIP log later...
