Looking to relight Russ's flame.

Lately, my Warhammer desk is growing full. Full of unfinished projects. I just...don't know what to do any more. I know it's more of a personal problem, but I've got so much I could be doing, and I don't know how I should get myself to get stuff done, and get myself enjoying it again.

So far, halted projects are:

Repainting Special Characters (Originally slowed due to my lack of worthy painting skills for such models as the classic PA Njal)

Clocktower terrain piece, with functioning clock (Already have all the mechanical bits and building pieces, just need to finish it)

At least 20 Marines to put together, including three or four terminators, and countless more to paint

Dividing my models into packs, and giving them pack markings, and working on my Great Company's mark.

So, I came here, looking for advice. What should I do, brothers?

Well, Id go forth with them, play a game against an opponent you normally have a great time with, then come back and put half of them away, if not all but 2. Then, sit down and paint those 2.

When they are done, and only then, unpack others to paint. Sometimes you see so much left undone and it makes it hard to start.

And a good game is always a great way to increase ones interest.

The "putting them out of sight" idea is a very valid one. I purposefully leave models out that I really want to get painted as a constant reminder and eventually I get off my lazy bum and do it. Alternately looking at 20 Grey Hunters collect dust is just depressing, so I stick them in a box till I'm ready to have at em. Making WIP models visible or invisible is a good way to either motivate you to paint or keep the task ahead from looking too daunting. Either way IMO it works.

I don't know so mutch about it, but I had motivasion psycologi on the universaty.

You should break "all of the work" innto smaler units. Like painting a few marines at a time- And you should åaint what you want to paint, not what you "need to paint".

also, it is important to put you in an envierment where painting models are important. Like your next game, if you get impressed by there painted models you should take that as an inspirasjon.

And take liberties when you paint, and make shure you are full of food and drinks when you do it. Perhaps some good music. :_)

I have the same problem m8 and this is how i get round it.

I try and give myself a treat after each bacth of models i paint. I always try to paint in 6s so ill do 6 troop choices and a IC and for a treat ill paint a tank or a a building or somthing diffent. The trick is to have something sitting there for you to really look forward to. Works for me also try little and often youll be amazed how fast a model comes around

Or you can start a second army.

I had that problem with my Imperial Guard, so I basicaly traded an army from another games system for a huge 40K Ork army, and simoultaneously I'm restoring my Blood Angels, so you always have something different to work on.

Oh, and I didn't spend a single cent. Well, except paint.

Well, brothers, after playing against the orks, I think my flame is relit. Particularly after realizing that against squads of ork boys, A unit of Grey Hunters with attached Wolf Guard with Wolf Claws can shred everything on the first round of combat before the orks can even swing.

I played my army completely opposite, and absolutely demolished the orks. I normally find some heavy support units I like, and center my army around heavy tanks, with minimal infantry. Well, this game I went all-out and took several minimalist squads, and ended up with around 70 or 80 marines. I learned that the Sons of Russ don't need any expensive gear to distribute Morkai's Peace.

So now, I realize that I need more Grey Hunters. Like...alot more.

I feel that sons of rus can do it very good on with lott of units. :-)

Cool you wonn. :)

Indeed. Lists like these also could do well with other types of games. The game played was a special type of Annihilation that my gaming group plays. No turn limit, last army standing. But that list, with all six troop slots, could take an objective game with little trouble. Since I played several units of any marines I could find, I'm putting together Grey Hunters with new determination. Specifically the unit that was charged by two different ork units on two different turns, and lost no models. I even modeled the Wolf Guard in a defensive stance to reflect the double ones I rolled both times for counter-attack.
