20 Wolf Gaurd, 10 coming out of a Drop Pod, and 5 Scouts with a pair of Plasma pistols or Powerweapons. Probly a Plasmarifle and two pistols for fire support actually.

And lets see.... 4 WG with WCs and SSs, 2 with Thunderhammers, 2 with Powerfists, 6 Frostblades, 2 Plasmapistol and Powerweapon. Split them evenly into two squads- those with TH and PF get Bolters.

You could make every single one of them Wolf Lords if you wanted to huh? Fair enough, since theyre not specificly any one model.

Hadnt thought of that. Does it have to fit on an FOC? If not.... hehe. If it does, 2 Wolf Lords and two Rune Priests if you can make them.

If there's no point limit, maybe use deathwind on Drop Pod? If it's legal under the rules to produce Your own characters, then fine, otherwise, You can only make WG, GH, BC and scouts out of them. BC are good in numbers, so they are not competitve if You are stuck with 20 man sprues. Hell, no flamers and meltas there either...

the only limit is whats in the box

i was thinking that plenty of sagas should be taken

i know its all a bit strange i tihnk its just to get more people into tournaments and to sell battleforces

you can only enter if you buy a battle force from warhammer world

perhaps i should have mentioned its a doubles tournament so if anyone is interested in partnering up that would be great

Well, consider that you are in a tournament and will most likely need to take some troops if you want to have any chance of winning objective missions.

I've given you a list below that uses two full SW upgrade sets (I'm assuming that's what you get in the box, not just the one?). If that is correct, I should have balanced out the number of weapons that you need from each set to make the following!

Let me know if you like, Simo429?!

HQ

Wolf Lord with Saga of the Bear, Runic Armour, Thunder Hammer and Storm shield, Wolf tooth necklace, meltabombs, wolf tail talisman.

Rune Priest with Runic Armour, Chooser of the Slain, Master of the Runes, Wolf tooth necklace, Saga of the Beastslayer, Living Lightning and Murderous Hurricane Powers

Rune Priest with Runic Armour, Chooser of the Slain, Master of the Runes, Wolf tooth necklace, Wolf Tail Talisman, Saga of the Warrior Born, Living Lightning and Jaws of the Wolf World.

ELITES

2 Wolf Guard Included in squads as listed

Remaining 5 Wolf guard: Three with twin-wolf claws, two with Thunder Hammer and Storm shield. Mounted in a Drop pod (Wolf Lord and at least one RP go here).

Scouts: 5 with bolt pistol and cc weaponl; two upgrade to power weapons, two upgrade to plasma pistols, one has Mark of the Wulfen, all have Meltabombs.

Led by a Wolf Guard Pack leader with twin Wolf Claws and Meltabombs.

TROOPS

10 Grey Hunters; two have Plasma Guns, one has a powerfist, one has a Mark of the Wulfen, a Wolf standard, one with aplasma pistol - give 'em the works!

Led a Wolf guard (pack leader) with Thunder Hammer and Storm shield.

First thing: I went with no "named" characters like Ragnar, as with there being a model for him already, I'm not sure if they would let you take him as a custom-build. Same goes for Njal!

By my reckoning, this list gives you a solid scoring unit, a lot of firepower, a CC monster in the Wolf Lord (with his 2+ armour save/3+ invunerable, immunity to instant death).

The pair of Rune Priests both bring firepower to the table, and when you look at what other battleforces bring, I think you will do okay in that respect. Also, the choosers stop infiltrators, and you will have a DP full of CC monsters in your opponent's face on turn one. They are more scary than super-impact, but I don't think that's a bad thing. Meanwhile, your GH pack can advance, and are more than capable of putting out some hurt at range as well as not being a good prospect up-close.

Depending upon your opponent, I would put one or both priests here, to give them cover, to allow you to start blasting turn one, and to give you some 2+ saves that you can allocate Ap3 shots to if you are feeling lucky!

The scouts I should think I don't need to explain.

Now, you COULD cheese this up even more, by dropping a few more Wolf Guard to "upgrade" them to tooled out Wolf Lords, but quite frankly, I'm a one Wolf-Lord kinda guy, and even at the moment this feels like a cheesed out list.

One final thing; the only thing you might not be able to include in the above list is a chooser of the slain for the RP's - that will come down to your creative skills in converting something suitable!

Let me know what you think.

NR :teehee:

Well, I gave it to the small squad of WG eventually (look closely, lol!) but equally, you could assign it to your GH's; however, that unit of CC wolf guard will be a major threat, and the pod can be used to drop them much closer, allowing the GH and shooting fire of the RP's to advance unmolested. In theory.....!
i dont have my codex on me but im always thrown off by things. scouts, i thought the power weapons were tied in with plasma pistols so u couldnt take a squad with two pistols, and two p weapons. also am i mistaken to think TWC can only have one special weapon?

I think you have the right ideas... then can have two power weapons and/or two plasma pistols, for a total of two options. You could have one of each though.

And TWC only get one guy with a special close combat weapon, but anyone can have a plasmapistol or a stormshield and they all have rending.

yea i didnt mean to side track this thread its just as im reading peoples idea, and i let a friend take my book to read up on them to see what he felt as in playing wolves himself. i have a fairly good memory when it comes to things like this, i believe it was the "650 point Hammer" thread where someone was saying take a squad of thunderwolves with power weapons, or maybe it was the thread about the guy fighting nurgle.

now back on topic, with this tourney it seems that wolves have a more flexable force box than others, because of the options kit there is so many posibilitys. i was thinking about it the SM force could work but with limitations, you couldnt kit out the scouts as well, maybe daka ones with 2 plasma pistols, and a H Bolter. then charge whom ever you shot when they came in, not like you will have much armor to deal with anyways as not many sets have major tanks (Aside from a wave serpent) skyclaws could work, and you would need to take the bits left over from the assault marines to make a HQ out of that missle guy. im not sure what comes with but it looks like in the kit the picture the Squad captian for the assault is using a stormshield and powerfist, so its safe to assume that theres a power weapon in the kit so u could only use one, throw a fist on ur hq and sit him in a 9man GH squad riding in a Rhino with a HK missle.

if what was said is true, the " no points limit you but you can only take models produced from a battle force, seems to be the type of tournament the new wolves were made for "

then you could combine the two, even get a squad of long fangs from missle launchers from a SM kit, and use the ideas i had above. unless your limited to play with one battleforce set .

these are the rules if anyone wats to continue to contribute to this thread

if anyone is thinking of entering and they would like to partner up and they live in around the nottingham area id be happy to do that

Battle Brothers

Battle Brothers is a doubles gaming tournament during the February half term of 2010, that gives you the perfect excuse to expand upon an existing army or start a new one. We are letting you know now, so that you have plenty of time to prepare!

Your ticket is free with any purchase of a Battalion or Battleforce set in the Warhammer World store.

The army that you use in the tournament can only be the box contents of your Battle Force or Battalion, out of which you can also create up to one character (of any level for Warhammer 40,000, or of Hero level for Warhammer Fantasy Battle).

However, there are no other army restrictions or points limits, so whatever you can make out of the models in your set is allowed. This gives you some fantastic opportunities to convert your various figures.

Lots of extra points will be awarded for painting, and there will also be 'best painted' awards for single characters and for armies.

To find out more, or to take part, contact the store.
