grunak
Hello fellow space wolf lords. Given that its christmas and all I decided to treat myself to the space wolf codex and the battleforce today and I was hoping to get your opinion on a few things. First of all, color scheme. I went with a 2/3 mordian blue and 1/3 space wolf grey mix, followed by an asurmen blue wash and light badab black watch, followed by a highlight of mixed the base color. I am pretty happy with this mix,the thing I am not sure are my shoulder pads. I am not to fond of the yellow shoulder pads. Instead I am thinking of going with red on both shoulder pads and using an odal rune instead of a great company marking. The thing i was hoping to get help with is,how could i fit the odal rune into the space wolf fluff? The second thing i was thinking about was magnetizing. I am planing to build all 20 marines as Grey hunters, but would like to magnitize arms so i can switch to special weapons and/or blood claws if need be. Magnetizing the arms is easy enough I found out today, the thing I am having trouble with is the shoulder pads (again). I cant see how I will fit a magnet in the shoulders so I will be able to switch them between different pair of arms, any thoughts or suggestion? The third thing I was hoping to get some help with is what to buy next, aming at a 1000 point army first for friendly games to start with. Will probably work this out myself after studying the codex abit more, just thought I would get your opinions will I had your attention. ;) Anyway, sorry for the wall of text and thanks in advance for your answers and help. Grunak, the newest space wolf lord from sweden. ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187532-young-pup-looking-for-advice/ Share on other sites
Grey Mage
I do red shoulderpads on my guys, though I use a strait SW Grey color on them- I think it works very well. I use Runes for the Pack Markings, and a waterslide transfer for the Great Company marking. For Grey Hunters I wouldnt bother magnetizing their arms, as I prefer to make some alternates for special close combat weapons, and my packs are fixed in their special ranged weapons really. But there is a thread titled "Magnets are great for space wolves" currently running, wich has some examples- you might also ask in the PCA area of the forum. For 1000pts Id suggest adding an HQ- a Priest, wolf or rune as you prefer does very well in small battles. Then, a decision needs to be made- are you going to be using rhinos, drop pods, or footslogging? Since your new, I would reccommend getting a couple of razorback kits and building them up as rhinos, as long as you dont glue the top hatch down you can switch them between rhino and razorback at will. To support them youll need some ranged firepower- A dreadnaught is always cool, and comes with a good range of weapons- I prefer assault cannon and heavy flamer myself. Long Fangs are also an excellant choice. Two mounted Grey Hunter Squads, a Priest, and a Dreadnaught ends up being around 750pts, and a box of Terminators to use in your drop pod would make an easy 1000pts, or you could get some Long Fangs in a Razorback and a Landspeeder as a good alternative. Drop Podding, then another DP, or 2 would probly be your best bet... again, an HQ and a Dreadnaught are good support choices. At 1000pts 2 GH packs, a Dread, an HQ, some scouts, and a Landspeeder Typhoon do really well. grunak
Thanks for your advice. As far as my armylist those were pretty much in the area of what I was thinking. Concerning magnetizing grey hunters I can agree it might be overly ambitious, but do you reckon it is still worth magnetizing 3 marines per pack? Thinking along the lines of being able to take 2 special weapons and a wolf guard if I choose to. What I was thinking with the odal rune was to use it as Great Company marking, but I am unsure how to fit it into the fluff. Cheers Grunak. Night Runner
Hi, If you are going to magnetize GH and BC packs, then yes, just magnetize the special weapons (power weapons, melta and plasma guns, flamer). They are the ones you will probably need to change according to your strategy and game play. This link show a good example, I think Grey Mage was referring to this: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=187457 Personally I will just magnetize my termies, dread, and vehicles since they have the most options per model. I know how I want my special weapons' choices to be on my GH and BC packs, so I wont bother magnetizing them. I put a rune on my BC packs. This marking on their right shoulder pad is called the 'Rune of Acceptance' and it is something the Claws work hard to get rid of and earn their place with the Hunters. This is how I fit it in to the fluff. Maybe you can work the odal rune in as a campaign honour, or to mark their loyalty to their Wolf Lord or it could have some significance to the Wolf Lord himself reminding him of some great ordeal or battle or challenge he had to overcome and hence was incorporated into the company's heraldry. Edit: By the way, wecome to the Fang! B) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187532-young-pup-looking-for-advice/#findComment-2219174 Share on other sites
