Hi, im new to this forum, but have looked through it multiple times, im starting a space wolves army and already have a theme, and story, ( I liked how they made a system were you actually design your own "heroic legacy")

Anyone have any suggestions on a good first name? {insert first name here} Ironclaw

Saga: Saga of the wolfkin

I know in my army i want to have 1 unit of Fen. wolves, to add some depth to my saga, but any suggestions on what units to take based on the armies my friends play?

Tyranids-mostly gaunts, lots of genestealers, fexis.

Tau- almost mostly fire warriors, crissis suits

(i consider other space marine chapters as mock battles)

Blood angels-death company, dante and honour guard,

Black templars- lightning claw termies w/chaplin, sword bretheran

Orks- i got this covered, being an ork player myself, i plan to use long fangs with heavy bolters and prob. some grey hunters too.

Welcome to the Fang! Have an ale!

Suggestions for a good name: Dan Ironclaw. Best name there is! Really tho, google search norwegian names or old germanic names. That's a good place to start.

Suggested Units: Grey Hunters! They are very good at holding a gun line against nids and assaulting the left overs. And good at killing fishies(tau). For other space marine training matches, plasma guns and power weapons. And Wolf Claws! Long Fangs are always a good buy too! Any HS is really....

Well, Flamers seem like a pretty nice choice against three of your opponents ('Nids, Tau, Orks), and we have pretty good access to those in GH and BC squads, so take advantage of that.

Of all of these armies, I'm only a veteran fighting against Tau, so here's my advice there:

-Behind Enemy Lines is invaluable against Tau. Wolf Scouts are pretty much a must here. Popping out from their table edge lets you get into combat, and when you do, you'll kill them by the boatloads. Make sure to grab a Wolf Guard squad leader for an extra power weapon/whatnot.

-It seems like you'll get some good use out of Rhinos, since you can use them to shield your Wolves until they're in assault range, to say nothing of protecting your marines from Pulse Rifles. The new Smoke Launchers are also excellent for giving you a little bit of extra resilience against Rail Cannons.

-Dreadnoughts, as great as they are against many armies, tend to underperform against Tau in my experience. Rail Cannons and the high mobility of Crisis Suits tend to leave them chasing shadows while they get shot up by S10 weapons. Admittedly, shooty configurations do a bit better, but a Ven. Dread is an expensive lascannon. Remember, too, that those Disruption Pods are going to nerf long-ranged tank hunting pretty hard.

-Stormshrug

How about Tyr Ironclaw. This is the Norse god of combat and heroism that lost his hand to Fenrir.

It seems to match IMO. One hand - Ironclaw (replacement) - Saga of the wolfkin - bitten of by monstrous wolf. Almost sounds like a poetic edda. ;)

That's it. I like the idea so much I'll call my WL Tyr. :D

And welcome to the Fang. This advice will cost you a pint of ale (whether you take it or not).
