Dezartfox
Sooo, here I am again with yet more terminators! I've been asked to build and paint a Deathwing army as a commission, I could have took the easy route and gave him my deathwing then re-built mine, but I didn't want to do that as I'm attached to my slightly scruffy looking models :) He wanted the army basically to match mine... so here's the list: Belial Chaplain 3 Terminator Squads (2 assaulty, 1 shooty, banner and apoth in one of the squads) 2 Dreads (chappy dread and DA dread) 2 drop pods 2 Crusaders So not THAT many models really. Biggest challenge will be the two crusaders and the pods, as they'll push my patience to the max! Got back home later Wednesday evening, a big package came full of the FW goodies but no GW stuff yet.. so I used some of the spare terminators I won to start on the "Command Squad" http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00190-20091217-1935.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00191-20091217-1936.jpg Found my old terrain piece I did.. makes a good display base :) http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00192-20091217-1937.jpg Apothercary: http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00193-20091217-2027.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00194-20091217-2027.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00195-20091217-2028.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00197-20091217-2028.jpg I've also got the Dreads ready to be undercoated, (damn snow) but they're in pieces so no point showing them off yet! I'm hoping the GW parcel comes soon.. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187600-deathwing-ahoy-2/ Share on other sites
Dezartfox
Command Squad finished, bar the Heavy Flamer/Chainfist, my client was unsure on what weapons to give the Apothecary, so suggested to just making a 6th terminator so the Apoth can be taken out and replaced if needed. So, banner, three Lightning claws and an apothecary. http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00201-20091218-2044.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00202-20091218-2044.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00203-20091218-2044.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00204-20091218-2045.jpg Squad shot: http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00207-20091218-2047.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187600-deathwing-ahoy-2/#findComment-2219774 Share on other sites
Corton
you have a well thouht out diorama there. Your models work well with the base, and they are really well posed too. Very nice. I particularly like the advancing terminator with Lightning Claws. It almost as if to say: "You're gonna die, and there is nothing you can do". Very nice work sir. Corton
Shame they're not going on that base! They do fit rather well too.. Cheers :D You could use pin sized magnets to double duty for the diorama base AND the playing bases at the same time..... Cheers :cuss You could use pin sized magnets to double duty for the diorama base AND the playing bases at the same time..... Yeah that'll work. But then again why bother? Dezartfox
Chaplain Dreadnought! So, I ploughed through the snow in hobby shorts to prime the two Forgeworld Dreads. Normally I just hold the model or stick it down, flip it over and do it again, but because of the weather I took a more professional approach and pinned all the pieces to a lump of wood: http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00211-20091219-1305.jpg With my first two dreads I primed them with black, on the third one I realised that there is a lot more grey than armour, so this time I primed them grey, cutting painting time in half almost! I got the messiest part of the scheme done first, then tidied up the grey areas with codex grey. http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00210-20091219-1305.jpg I prefer doing models like this singular to each other, gives them more personality than batch painting both of them together, so jsut the Chaplain dreadnought was worked one today. here are the results after a couple of hours: http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00212-20091219-1707.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00214-20091219-1707.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00215-20091219-1708.jpg I went to GW last week and stocked up on paint.. they must have mixed up the Badab black and Devlan mud as I now have 4 pots of Badab black! I guess one can NEVER have enough! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187600-deathwing-ahoy-2/#findComment-2220501 Share on other sites
Dezartfox
FINISHED one of the Dreads, and the other is 99% done too :) http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00219-20091222-1554.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00220-20091222-1554.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00221-20091222-1554.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00223-20091222-1555.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00224-20091222-1555.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00225-20091222-1555.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00226-20091222-1555.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00230-20091222-1558.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00231-20091222-1559.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00232-20091222-1559.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/IMG00233-20091222-1559.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187600-deathwing-ahoy-2/#findComment-2223416 Share on other sites
the thousandth whisper
Great Work Dezartfox i like the light coming from the plasma cannon and claw on the chaplain dread, it gives it a spooky effect. Dezartfox
Cheers :o @Pake Yeah... the bases I'm doing last so I get a consistent theme through out the army, these guys will just be on normal mud and grass :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187600-deathwing-ahoy-2/#findComment-2224214 Share on other sites
EPK
I like the Apothecary's "work light" rather than the typical flood light. Makes sense for it to over hang like that, as if one was working on a car at night, when he's digging into some heavy ceramite armor. I'm interested in the his Narthecium/Reductor, what did you use there? Dezartfox
It's made from on old Space marine hand on the Thunder hammer shield arm, then a piece from the DA landspeeder sprue, a pin, end of an old laspistol and an old knife blade thing  New shiney camera! My fear of the camera making them look awful is no more! It makes them look better in my opinion.. or is this how everyone else sees them? Because I definitely don't see them like this! But maybe that's because I painted them? Meh, pictures! http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/075.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/076.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/078.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/079.jpg And my one: http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/088.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/087.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187600-deathwing-ahoy-2/#findComment-2225343 Share on other sites

Dezartfox
Cheers :P Finished TWO terminators today, I'm trying a new method to painting the OSL (glowy bits) than my last DW and they're looking snazzier already ;) http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/Deathwing001.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/Deathwing002.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/Deathwing003.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg246/Dezartfox/Models/Deathwing004.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187600-deathwing-ahoy-2/#findComment-2229318 Share on other sites
SamaNagol
Really enjoy your posts. You manage to work quick and you have an interesting 'impressionist' style with the light sourcing and washes. If you made references to 'happy accidents' whilst you painted, you'd be my hero. I look forward to seeing them all together finished. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187600-deathwing-ahoy-2/#findComment-2229414 Share on other sites

Raibaru
Could you catalog your steps for your terminators next one you do maybe? I really like the streaked white, but the few tutorials I've found here and elsewhere don't seem to turn out for me lol! Nothing super indepth, just something like you did with your Chaplain dread above. But even if you say no, I still like you and your models look amazing! Dezartfox
How do you paint so well so fast? Love your painting style and these are awesome (like the last dudes!) No job, lots of tea and a time machine! ;) Naah, if anything it's knowing what to do, this is the second DW army I've painted, the first took me 11 weeks, this one will hopefully only take 6 or so. Practice makes perfect! Cheers ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187600-deathwing-ahoy-2/#findComment-2233272 Share on other sites
