Athalus
So, I am making a wolf lord and the squad he will be attached to. This is gonna be a HUGE point sink as its all in TWC, but I really want to try this out for my 13th company. Wolf Lord- Athalus Voidwulf twm thunder hammer or Frost blade storm shield or Belt of russ wolftooth necklace 2x wolves (if he can still attach to another squad with them. As their is currently a large debate going on whether or not this is the valid interpretation of how to use them (as wargear), I will just go with whatever my local playgroups decide) Saga - Wolfkin or Warrior Born TWC x5 storm shield x 5 TH x 1 MB x 4 (for the dudes without the thunder hammer) As you can see I have a couple of hard choices to make concerning my wolf lord. I definitely want him on a mount, with a kick ass weapon that looks good. I figure I can achieve this with either a frostblade, which can be sculpted to be like a long pole arm/lance, or thunder hammer that can be made to look like a traditional mounted war hammer used by knights. The choice really affects what the lord will be doing (pwning vehicles or troops), and as I am 13th company I may just go with the TH because I am gonna get rocked by MC/vehicles. Based on that decision, I either go with SS (with TH), or belt of russ (with frostblade). I think overall the storm shield is the better choice because it gives a better save. If I do go with the storm shield, however, I think the saga of the warrior born becomes a very reasonable choice, because it makes up for the lost attack. Wolfkin is an option because I have somewhere between 20-30 wolves in my army, so it can be quite good. The other option is to just go with Canis, but he doesn't have an invulnerable save. As for the TWC, is this an effective loadout? Its 80+pts per model, but with the lord its a devastating force. Backpacking them will be a runepriest on a bike with a bike squad (giving a cover save for the lord, bikes, and wolves), as well as all those wolves. I am hoping to just create a stupid charging army, that then drop pods in grey hunters from the behind while my team rushes the front, supported by long fangs. BTW, this is 13th company, so no mechanization at all besides drop pods (to replace lost porting), and no termies. Likely will also have scouts to take out other targets. This is an army that i can use from 1500 to about 3000pts. Anyways, comments, suggestions? Thanks C Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187659-my-wolf-and-his-squad/ Share on other sites
Ullr Direfang
well for me (and before i get to far, i will say i don't have a codex in front of me right now), i would probably not give all my TWC a SS but that i me. untill i get my codex i can't comment more on how they are loaded out. For you question as to the wolves, i would ask to be given 100% undenable proof that they can't join other units, and i feel that i saw in the codex some where that they could join another unit, but am not 100% sure i were i think i saw it at the momment. once again i will try to find where i saw it and try to post it soon. SamaNagol
Give one of the untargetable models in the TWC unit a Thunder Hammer. It still swings at St10 and has plenty of attacks to ruin MCs and Vehicles. Then give your Wolf Lord a Storm Shield and Frost Blade so he is swinging at initiative at St6. That's nasty! Warrior Born is good for mounted models as you have a higher chance of reaching combat next turn if you consolidate out of a combat in the opponents assault phase with the increased range of movement. Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely consider it, as it does sound nasty. Warrior born does seem more and more like the better choice, as it just wrecks face on a dude with so many attacks to start with, with lots of movement. I think the frost blade as a long lance/polearm will also just look really nice too.
