Im a bit surprised I havent seen this question before but does anyone ever use the psychic power of the runic weapon in CC or just use the psychic powers listed in the book instead and never worry about it? I think its very interesting but not sure if I would ever do it myself.

If your close combat lasts more than a turn and you have opponents with 2+ wounds you better use it because you can't cast anyways

Besides that it depends on what you are fighting...I don't send my RP in as an assault unit so the situation rarely arises.

being the guy who used a RP once and had him lead from the front, i actually used it and killed an IC in one combat and then another in a different combat. he was used in a squad that supported my WL in succesive combats. and needless to say it was the one time i ever used a RP that made me wonder if i should replace my WP with a RP depending on what i was facing.

Not used it yet, but I do run a RP as a front ranker. I've not gamed for 6 months, though, & jumped back in with new Dex straight off, didn't twig I could hit Daemon on 2+s & lost the chance to obliterate it. Otherwise would have been very useful. Still won the game though :P

as grey mage said, if you take master of runes then chances are you will be able to fry someone.

otherwise it depends on your RP build, mine normally doesn't get many upgrades as i keep him in a support role, but close enough to counter attack with a nearby unit should i require it. then i look at what im fighting.

if its single wound models I might cast a power like stormcaller or a sooting one if the unit is unegaged.

if they are multiwound models then i look at what im charging with and what im going to be fighting. is the unit im chargin with euipped with decent combat weapons, are they high in numbers and so likely to cause several wounds anyway etc.

Is the enemy a high T, if they are then im unlikely to cause many wounds so will save my power to try and fry one. if they are lower T, like nobs or tyranid warriors, then chances are i will try and shoot at them with a power first as i am likely to cause a few wounds during the combat phase.

i try and avoid going 1v1 with enemy characters as they will generally hurt, but if absolutely necessary i will save his power against them as i will need to hurt them quickly.

it all depends on the situation at hand and the placement of the priest and supporting units.
