The weqpon of choise

If you have a predator and a long fangs pack in your group, what is the best way to include lascannons?

A 165 point predator just seems very expensive to me. It has 2 lascannons and a twin linked. A pred with 2 twin linked and hevay bolters is a bit booring, since the bolters and the lascannon are not looking for the same targets.

The Twin linked lascannon dread is 135, 145 if you want to give him the auto cannon. But at that price it would seem better to take long fangs. The "Elite" in dreadnought I think comes form the fact that it can do more things at once, and he is just armour 12.

At 80 for 2 lascannons and splitt fire the long fangs realy seem like the ebst choise. What do you think?

Well for output yes then that is the best price, but remember that is still just 3 normal marines who dies as easily as 3 normal marines. If you are going with Long Fangs it is always better to have a full squad of them, but then price becomes an issue if you use only Lascannons.

A pred och dreadnaught can be lots more survivable.

Cheapest TLLC in the game is the Pred at 105 which is the way I run mine. I am always moving trying to work toward a side shot and to keep myself from an easy CC kill.

But for overall best bang for the buck effectiviness it seems the Long Fangs are the best way to go. Like Sarapham mentioned taking them in squads of 5+ seem to be most effective as you can add some cheaper weapons such as HB or ML to help with wound allocation. Even a 33 point TDA WG is not a bad option to throw into the LF squad to give them a 2+ save and can help with any CC action they might get into. 3ML 2 LC is 170 is how I run mine at the moment.

Vrox.

Excluding thee 75 point razorback with a TLLC I do suppose.

The AV 13 is worth the extra 40 points, but it depends on game size and availability of transports. I tend to run with a Razorback with a TLLC for my wolf guard unit, which gets split up among the rest of the units in the army. Works well enough.

As for long fangs, I'd go with 5 missile launchers. Cheap, and it doesn't get much more multi-purpose than that, and it's a steal points wise, even with a wolf guard tossed in to soak another wound.

I swear by Dreadnoughts. I usually field two with lascannon/missile launcher. They're just so versatile.

Two games I've played against Necrons they took down the Monolith in the first turn (though that was under fourth edition rules).

How 'bout long fangs pack with 5 long fangs and one leader with 5 lascannons and a melta gun mounted in a razorback with twin linked lascannons? 300 points for 6 lascannons with one twinlinked and a melta gun! :D A unit with a ridiculous anti tank fire power that is cheaper than two predators configured for full anti-tank potential. It is , however, perhaps better for apocalypse.

Well the Melta and Lascannons are kinda counter-productive as with Melta you want to be as close as you can and with with Lascannons as far away as possible.

I've always preferred my predator over my Long Fangs. Don't know why, but even in 4th it was just much more survivable, to say nothing of mobile.

If you're gonna go with Long Fangs, 5x Missile Launchers would be my choice. Lascannons are just too expensive, especially for a full squad of them. Also, anything less than a full squad will just be way too fragile. Even with an attached WG, you still only need to lose 2 for a Ld test ... and that's at least one less lascannon.

I have several Dreads, some Longfangs, and a Combi-predator *TLLC+HB*. I find I dont take the predator as often- its a great choice, worth its points... but the Longfangs are better and I just love Dreadnaughts....

Seriously, Dreads might be the coolest marine unit, ever.
