Warmaster.40K
Yellow. What a god awful colour to paint but a damn fine looking finished colour. I have started an Imperial Fists army now I have completed my Blood Angels (after 6 years of messing about and learning to paint!!) and thought it prudent to share with you my discovered method for getting a table top quality model in just a few hours. http://i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/Wa...0K/SDC13373.jpg First thing to do is assemble your squad or unit and prime in black. Yes black! I tend to leave the miniature off their bases so I can model the base and paint them up ready and neatly. Now water down some Lyanden Darksun foundation paint until it is the consistency of thick milk. Keep adding water as you go so the the paint stays smooth. Paint the whole model with the foundation paint. There is no need to be too neat but try and flick the paint out of the models details as you go. Continue this process about 3-4 times until you have a nice flat even looking colour. The next step is to get some Golden Yellow and mix this with water until it is the same consistency you had for the foundation paint. Liberally paint the model. Again there i no need to be neat at this stage just be careful not to fill in the details on the model. You will need to do 5-6 coats (or even more) of this colour but because you are not being 'neat' it is a fast process. Now apply a heavy wash of Gyphonne Sepia and dab excess off the model with tissue paper. At this stage you could put the models onto their bases and they should look something like this... http://i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/Warmaster_40K/IF1.jpg Now dry brush Golden Yellow on to the model twice and it will start looking yellow again. From here mix Golden Yellow and sunburst Yellow (50/50) add some water to get a nice consistency and apply the first stage of highlights. 2nd Stage Sunburst Yellow (leaving some of previous highlight showing) 3rd Stage Sunburst Yellow / Skull White (50/50) (leaving some of previous highlight showing) 4th Stage Skull White (on the very edges - dont over do this stage!) Then you will have something that looks like this... http://i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/Warmaster_40K/SDC13438.jpg From here all you need to do is paint the weapons, company colours and armour joints. To do this paint the weapons and armour joints in Chaos black. Highlight the weapons with Codex grey and chaos black (50/50) and then a fine line of codex grey (use a wash of badab black if the grey is too strong). To paint the joins paint with bolt gun metal, wash with badab black highlight with boltgun metal and fine line with mithril silver. The chest eagles are base coated in mechrite red foundation paint shaded with badab black then dry brushed with blood red a few times and thn a light coating of blazing orange is dry brushed over that. There you go! Gaming standard Imperial Fists in just a few hours a unit! http://i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/Wa...er_40K/IF13.jpg http://i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/Wa...0K/SDC13362.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187722-imperial-fists/ Share on other sites

Warmaster.40K
Yes. The light aint so great as it was photographed under a lamp. I will take some during the day in day light so you get a better feel for the colour. I also like strong highlights as the models look better on the table when I am playing. Missing out the final highlight or even washing the models in a very very watery Golden Yellow, like an ink, will take the edge off. Hope this helps! WingsOfTheFalcon
Nice to see some IF love! Good yellow, I usually prefer them to be a bit more mustard but I like how bright and clean your yellow is. Nice work on the commander, the only thing I'm not 100% about is the bolter casing being yellow, aside from that, good job!
