vikingwolves
Hi all, I am new to the forum and a 40k newb, but I have been toying around with the idea of having thunderwolves in my 1st army as a line breaker unit. Seeing as how Nob bikers and Seer Councils are very good at that sort of thing, I thought that the Thunderwolves might be able to be a good fast attack unit capable at handling most units. I have the idea of attaching 1 wolf lord on a thunderwolf mount with a frost blade, maybe a storm shield, and a SotWB. The Thunderwolves number 2 and have a power fist and a power weapon. The wolves point total is 140 plus the Wolf Lord finally added (with everything) equals 343. This is modeled around a 1500 point army (3 troop choices +2 rhinos, a rune priest, an Predator Annihalitor, Long Fangs, and a dreadnaught.) This sound good? I just like the feral savagry of the Wolves and Calvary charges, so does this sound good? SamaNagol
They are better used as skirmishers to harass flanks and pick off stragglers. Their suggested threat is more effective than their actual threat. Although they will carve through bog standard infantry. m00v
Hey, thunderwolves are good and they can definitely handle most units in cc, but not in that combo as u put them. In my opinion u don´t need a lord or a character in this unit, because normal thunderwolves do the same job, have cheaper point costs, >more attacks and more wounds. A unit with 5 t-wolves and wound allocation gives u 10wounds: 5x thunderwolves: 1x thunder-hammer, 1x bolter, 1x shield, 1x shield+melta bombs, 1x basic equippment @345 points So for the same points u get a unit against tanks, big bugs, and infantry. I agree with m00v, a full squad with different equipment for wound allocation is much better than a small one with a WL, it has more attacks ,more wounds, and could suffer up to 7 shooting wounds before testing for morale. I field them in the same configuration, except that the MB guy doesn't have a SS, one is enough most of the time at 1500 or 1750pts. If you spread them enough and given the 60mm bases they should be mounted on, your opponent will have a hard time hitting more than 2 with a pie plate. At 2000 or higher point levels though a second SS is a good investment, especially against IG or Triple Vindicator SM or CSM. Wildfire
The Thunderwolves number 2 and have a power fist and a power weapon. Just pointing out that this is illegal. Only one TWC can have a special CC weapon.
