gmtiberus
Hi, I want to build a force that is unit must enter via Deep Strike or using Drop Pod. The only unit that I want to use that isn't included is the Wolf Scout. I know that in 5th edition, vehicle are more viable then before. I want to know if a can build a army that can take my opponent in tournement? Grey Mage
Uhh... yes. Drop Pod armies are quite capable of being competitive in a Tournament enviroment. There are five guidelines to DP armies with C:SW in my opion: 1: Always have an odd number of DPs in order to maximise your first wave. 2: Always support them with fast units- scouts, bikes, and most especially landspeeders. 3: Always bring ranged weaponry, particularly antitank. 4: Grey Hunter Packs should be considered first priority unless your running a Logain list. They are simply the best unit we have to come out of a DP. 5: Dont deploy stupidly- if DPing next to your enemy will result in your forces being wiped then dont do it, deploy farther back or deploy out of the DPs and let them come in empty. Natanael
I've been thinking about adding a few pods to my force(for starters, and then going to a full pod force) and I have been lookin at the idea of 7 plasma shots in a single pod. 8 GH w/ Plasma G, Plasma P + WG w/ Combi-Plasma + WGBL w/ Combi-Plasma. Then again, you'd need some AT in there, but the rapid fire of this squad would blast away anything. 1 or 2 pods like this, and maybe some dreads to spearhead the attack and you are set. Then I'd go for bikes as support, but I realise that they can't deep strike and therefore are not something for you. gmtiberus
I have make a list of what can be drop pod or scout: Elite: - Wolf Guard - Dreadnought/Venerable - Scout Troop: - Grey Hunter - Blood Claws Fast: - Skyclaw Assault - Land Speeder Heavy: - Long Fang Any tactic or comment to use any of the unit above? Grey Mage
Yeah- skyclaws cant assault out of Deepstrike, so I suggest deploying them on the board and saying they came in via thunderhawk during the initial launch of DPs. Natanael
Also, to drop you LFs you need Logan (or drop an empty pod) for them to be effective. I'd say you should go heavy on GHs and WGs in your pods w/ some speeders to back you up maybe (tough I would not deploy them using deep strike) :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187917-space-wolf-drop-pod-force/#findComment-2224364 Share on other sites
gmtiberus
So from your advice I drop: Heavy: - Long Fang And I take: Elite: - Wolf Guard - Dreadnought/Venerable - Scout Troop: - Grey Hunter - Blood Claws Fast: - Skyclaw Assault - Land Speeder Tactic: - So my fire support come from the Dreadnought/Venerable - Scout with Melta to Tank Hunting - Wolf Guard as Unit - Grey Hunter with 10 model to either have 2 Melta,Plasma or Flamer - Lander Speeder to either Tank hunting or Horde killing - SkyClaw with Wolf Priest to support my Grey Hunter Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187917-space-wolf-drop-pod-force/#findComment-2224378 Share on other sites
Natanael
Problems w/ tactic: You only have 3 elites, so unless you run WGs as troops, you're gonna have trouble with getting both dreads/scouts as support and WGs as squads. I'd say you should skip dreads or run Logan. Also, deep-striking Speeders are not a very good idea. If not a Typhoon it has to short-ranged weaponry to be effective as anything more that a one shot wonder, and the TYphoon is way better to deploy first turn to take full advantage of the 48" range. That said, I have no real experiance with a full pod army. All I say is just theory-hammer and can apply to any kind of SW army, really :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187917-space-wolf-drop-pod-force/#findComment-2224496 Share on other sites
gmtiberus
So I drop the Dreadnought/Venerable and take Scout unit and Wolf Guard Unit. I use the Land Speeder as Tank Hunting and Horde Killing, but not Deep Strike them. Drop the Blood Claws because they will never charge if I am correct (or can they charge after moving out of Drop Pod?) Unit: Elite: - Wolf Guard - Scout Troop: - Grey Hunter Fast: - Skyclaw Assault - Land Speeder Tactic: - Scout with Melta to Tank Hunting - Wolf Guard as Unit - Grey Hunter with 10 model to either have 2 Melta,Plasma or Flamer - Lander Speeder to either Tank hunting or Horde killing - SkyClaw with Wolf Priest to support my Grey Hunter Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187917-space-wolf-drop-pod-force/#findComment-2224508 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
Theres no problem drop podding long fangs- they just cant fire the first round. So dont deploy them near the enemy, instead give them a normal ranged setup, and use their run move to get them into some proper cover *wich they can deploy near since you have a lovely DP. Ravenger
question, drop pod count as cover for long fangs? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/187917-space-wolf-drop-pod-force/#findComment-2224754 Share on other sites
Natanael
Yeah, LFs work fine like that but still I'd say you can spend the points for the pod on better things, and just deploy you LFs right away. That way, they are able to fire first turn as well. Grey Mage
Well you can also just deploy them normally and have their pod come down later, getting you more people in your first wave. Natanael
Yeah, that's what I said in a previous post. Deploy and drop empty if you need the pod.
