Crusader or Godhammer

I have started a GK force and have amassed a large number of the metal beaters but no tanks. I want to take tanks and I figure that I will take 3 of them as heavy/transports. My question is which one is the best option for the army? I can get 3 Crusaders or 3 regular Land raiders for around the same price, though the Crusaders are a bit cheaper where I am getting them.

I want to fill them with PAGK and a squad of termies but need to know which one would be the best for my buck. I know that our LR variants are different from the Sm guys. I figure that the MM will help with tank busting and they both look great. Please help a new guy out. I get paid tomorrow and want to get these en route to me.

Thanks in advance.

No matter what power-armoured force you play, the Land Raider Crusader is, IMHO, the best of the bunch. Better than the godhammer, and better than the new redeemer, too. And the GK LRC is the best of that breed, too, thanks to the combination of Machine Spirit and the DH codex unique rule of "always able to fire hurricane bolters".

The LRC combines the best anti-armour -- turret Multi-Melta -- with the best anti-infantry weaponry as well. AND it provides frag launchers for assault-grenade-impaired Grey Knights.

If you really really want to switch to godhamamers from time to time, magnetize your tank. You can buy the lascannon/HB weapons sprue direct from GW as a bitz order. But you can't order LRC bitz separately.

Thanks for the quick reply. You make very good points. I have always liked the Crusader as a tank as well and 3 of them is just too nice. Do you give them the smoke launchers as well for that added safety? I figure 3 of them eats a large amount of points from an 1850 but what a wonderful trio of mobile bunkers/firebase love.

Well it came down to the fact that the Crusaders were anti horde/ anti tank beasts of burden that would take the termies and the PAGK to the front line to lay down the pain. I have 3 of them in the mail as we speak and will have them after Christmas I figure. I will post some pics around here as I build paint the force. Just need to figure out what to put in them now. I figure they eat a large part of the list but I still have the rest of the 1850. I want to field all 3 of them though.

Should be cool.

Errm you have that backwards, right?

You are correct, sir! I was thinking of the LR Terminus sprue. You can indeed buy the LRC components as bitz for about US$20. So, for approximately US$77, you can buy a land raider that you can convert to a land raider crusader. Yikes! Expensive!

Too much for me. I got a great deal on fleabay for a squadron of 3. Free shipping and a decent discount so I was pleased. I am normally a LGS kind of guy but my LGS is not so local being about a 3 hour round trip to go to. Anyway I am now rocking 3 of the finest tanks known to the 4oK universe and I think I also got some trades going for some Rhinos for my SOB squads. Inquisition looking more Mechanized everyday.

Always able to fire it's hurricane bolters.......thos are defensive weapons. And being as I may have MASSIVELY overlooked something, but I was under the assumption you could always fire them given their str making them a defensive weapon.

The difference is that you my fire those bad boys after moving 12". The defensive weapon status only helps up to 6". Machine Spirit allows another weapon to fire, and at a different target if desired, so you get a juggernaut in the GK LRC. :nuke:

As if you needed another reason to rock this monster. It is very tempting to grab all 3 slots but that is a lot of points. Seems that hordes should be less of an issue with these guys on the field.

Thanks for all of the input so far. Very helpful.

I have kind of a relation question as I'm trying to decide the same thing.

I believe that I would like to go with the Crusader, but I want that pintle-mounted Multi-Melta and I'm fairly certain the DH codex doesn't have a rules for one. Now, I too play mostly with friends so I don't think they would have trouble letting me have it for the current SM codex price, but what about for tourney's?

The GK LRC's multi-melta comes as standard equipment. It has the same weapon rules that every other MM has, AFAIK.
