Chooser 'blocking' Infiltrate: Usefull?

Does anyone just... 'infiltrate' anymore?

In 5th edition the tables seem so incredibly small. The ability to move quickly now and the amount of models with access to flank, as well as rear flank.... it seems really small. I came to think about Chooser of the Slain and its ability to block infiltrate. It seems rather useless since no one I know actually infiltrates.

I am wishing it covered forms of reserves like deep strike or what not (think new nids) and THEN chooser would be uselful, but really after a few games it's just a creative way of making us pay for an extra point in ballistic skill, isn't it?

Am I missing something or is that all it is? Has anyone actually found it come into play for infiltration protection?

when i play guard, my ratlings, stormtroopers (and sometimes my vets) will all infiltrate rather than outflank. sometimes this is simply to ensure they have good LOS other times its handy to keep a unit back to try and counter a suprising deployment move of my opponents or to sure up an area that i think looks weak.

with my marines, if playing normal C:SM i will normally infiltrate my scouts to push on an objective early on. with C:SW i obviously use BEL with the scouts as they have a different role.

With my nids, my broodlords unit always infiltrates as it means i have a synapse creature in the spearhead (something which can be tricky if not using a winged tyrant/warriors) and to ensure that they will get into combat as soon as possible because they need the numbers to be effective.

it all dependson who i was playing against. I tend to overlook outflank in favour of the normal infiltrate but thats just me

It is rare to see anyone infiltrate these days. I play IG a good bit, so I've put Ratlings out mainly and sometimes Harker and his crew. Still if you think about it, most armies that have infiltate tend to flank now more than anything, same with scouting. Rarely do you see anyone put a unit out, scout move it often. Again, save for perhaps a few IG builds and Raven Guard builds with Scout Speeders.

Keep in mind that it's only a handful of points (ok ... two handfulls :D ) and for that you can stop infiltration in a pretty good portion of the board and get a boost to your BS. I'd pay that just to hit on 2+ with living lightning!

While it's true that infiltrating has become much rarer, it still happens and when it does, we have a way to counter it. All without it being a waste when no one is actually infiltrating.

Extending it's effect to deep striking would also greatly increase it's cost (or reduce it's area of influence).

IMO it's a no brainer just for the BS boost, if it hampers some infiltrators, that's bonus.

Yeah 1x pts to have my Rune Priest hitting on a 2+, that alone to me is worth it. BUT- when you add the fact that it does on ocassion through a wrench in your opponents plans, then yes. It is worth it

My standard load out for my Rune Priest is: Chosser, Living Lightning, and Saga of the Beastslayer.

It's decent, and sometimes it awesome. A great 10pts. If it stops Tyranids, oh boy, it will be sweet.

Compare it against other 10pt options, such as standards for GH, or power weapons, or wolf tail w/e, it pretty much matches up to other things you could buy (even F-wolves).
