The alliance between Mars and the Imperium

Ok just a question on the original rules of the alliance. Now from what I remember the Admech have instant instant access to all STC and archeotech that was found during the great crusades and post. Now I'm wondering what kind of units might be attached to a space marine force that actively looks for ancient tech and relics of the past.

As marine forces are essentially a military force, might the Admech form a close relationship and seconder mining tech and miner servitors (ogryn types) to a marine expedition. Now my idea is that the marines are essentially going to act as the investigation sites security within a hot zone.

Also is their any info on mining technology that the Imperium uses. I'm thinking along the lines of high tech laser or sonic drills.

Thanks

The Adeptus Mechanicus is always reluctant to supply the Imperium with anything it might not get total control over.

This "alliance" is ever more fragile when dealing with Space Marines. In fact, it says in the Codex that Techmarines, when returning from their training on Mars, lose most confidence with their peers.

As such, the Mechanicus will take those matters into their own hands.

I doubt it would happen. The Mechanicus already have many Explorator fleets scouring the galaxy, the most likely scenario would be for a Company or so to attach themselves to the Explorator Fleet. Unlike the Astartes, the Mechanicus' ships are not limited and can specialise in ship-to-ship combat, and they'd be garrisoned by hundreds of thousands (at least) of Skitarii.

The Mechanicus does have a self-contained military, with billions of Skitarii, combat servitors, the Legio Cybernetica, the great Ordinatus and of course the Titan Legions themselves. You can only really offer them resources they don't have at the moment. Even with the full Chapter, you can't offer them anything they can't match at a later date.

More than that, the Imperium is very wary of AdMech-Astartes alliances after the Steel Confessors debacle. Any such arrangement would be viewed with suspicion.

Where can I find more about this? The 40k Lexicanum doesn't go over it.

You shouldn't be trusting it anyway. :)

In a nutshell, the Steel Confessors were secretly developed by the AdMech as their own 'pet' Chapter, were found out and were made to split from the AdMech.

According to what source? Book, what book? WD, what issue? I want to read up on this.
