stvnpc
Greetings Brother Wolves, I come to you as a new wolf to the mighty pack of the space wolves. I am starting to put together an army to punish and destroy all the heretics that pose a threat to humanity. What suggestions would you give me in this task? Dark Bjoern
Welcome at the Fang, Whelp. Hmm, a bit more intel would be nice. Do you plan to start with SW or do you have already bought some stuff (and what)? Which way do you wanna go with your Wolves? Mechanized? Footslogging? Droppoding? Frontline989
Buy two Space Wolves Packs and two Rhinos and then an HQ of your choice, Rune Priest is the most popular. Thats a good start. Another nice purchase though not neccessary is the Wolf Guard Terminators. My favorite thing with them is you can use the Terminators as different things(Wolf Lords, Battle Leaders, Lone Wolves, or just normal terminators). You can use one of the Terminators as Arjac, a very frightening force on the battlefield. Grey Mage
First time playing 40k? Or is this a second army? A few tips that are just in general: 1) Our troops, particularly Grey Hunters are one of the best in the game- and always have been. You can never have to many GH packs. 2) Remember, diversity is good, and adaptability is excellent. So try to have a mix of special weapons *just dont mix plasmaguns with any other guns* and special close combat weapons in your squads. 3) HQs are wonderful and powerful units, but do your best to keep them cheap, clean, and powerful. stvnpc
Dark Bjoern - I hadn't considered what I would like to do but I think that I might start out with Rhinos and assaulting style of play. I love to get into the thick of the things. Frontline989 - Thanks for the suggestions, I was thinking about getting a few units of Gray Wolves Grey Mage - Thanks for the tips. Dark Bjoern
Transports and assaulting? Then you should think about 15 Bloodclaws with Wolf Priest in a Land Raider Crusader. I think you would love this combination. Supported by two Grey Hunter packs in Rhinos you will have a solid backbone for your army. SamaNagol
All of our units can be made using parts from the Space Wolf Pack box, so I would recommend getting 3 boxes of those. You can either use them to make 10 complete Space Wolf models as Grey Hunters or Blood Claws, or you can mix in some of the parts to make Long Fangs and Sky Claws. So essentially you will definitely need 3 boxes of Space Wolves, and then have a look at other units you think look cool or sound fun to play. On another note, if you are considering buying Rhinos, ALWAYS buy the Razorback boxed set for a few pounds more, as it contains all the parts you need to make a Rhino but if you do not glue on the top hatch doors, you can swap them over for Razorback turrets so you have both tanks at your disposal. You will then need to look at what HQs u want. You can buy a Rune Priest from mail order, but there is no generic Wolf Lord or Wolf Priest model so that can be where you start to personalise your army with conversions. TiguriusX
Go to the Army List page and browse the first three or so pages. Get an idea for what other people are putting together. Come back after that and let us know what you liked etc. Our codex is extremely versatile. You can build your force around any concept (Powerful WL...RP force...TW force...Dreadnaughts etc.) Once you have an idea what you prefer we can fine tune it for you Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188105-a-young-wolf-looking-for-training/#findComment-2226953 Share on other sites
