Rune Priest Ridcully
Does any one not use the new plastics in there armys, specifically wolf guard, the other guy in my area who did Space Wolves before the new codex (A lot of people have started wolves since the codex) seems to have replaced all his Terminators with new plastics, (albeit Wolfed up Space Hulk ones), and everyone on here, including the older posters seems to be going on about the New plastic wolf guard terminators, even the new PA ones. So is there anyone else who still uses their old wolf guard still, and what are your reasons? Mine are that all of my PA wolf Guard and some of the Terminators are conversions, I like the weight of metal models (one reason why I like my Grey knight Terminators) there is just something about the old terminator models I like, and despite the time the Cyclone missile launcher scatterd back onto the Terminators themselves (and even killed one! :P ) my old metal wolf guard have served me well and I am sentimental. G. A. K.
I myself have been playing the wolves for around a decade and all twenty or so of my WG Termies are the old metal ones, a few heavily converted (not easy with metal) also all my WGPL who are also converted and I even still have a ten-man squad of PA WG armed with bolters (from backin 3rd ED when bolters rocked!!) But I've just been using them as Grey Hunters since the change to 4TH ed. All these fellows are my most hardened veterans who have take me to victory countless times. I see no point to replace them for the new models and an still using them exacty as they are. I may get a new box exentually but my budget isn't going to tolerate me bying models I don't really need just because they are the newest looking ones. The new box looks great and all, but I like the guys I have frankly. Godhead
I use a mix. As for terminators, alot of the old metal ones come stock standard with power fists so they had to get the chop or sit on shelves. I like the look of the old models so for me, I was just reluctant to chop em down and do a poor job with a pw conversion. I have found myself in the unfortunate position of having WAAYYYY to many assault cannon carrying wg now. I have found the plastics make it easier to set up the varied load outs available for wg (I never got around to buying the forge world conversion kit for terminators) so I dropped the cash (or err. I mean the wife did) for a box of the new wg terms. The fact that they just look GOOD was super bonus. SamaNagol
They are just so small. That's the only problem. I have a whole bunch of metal Blood Claws I wanted to use, but next to the new plastics they look miniscule! Valerian
I've got 10 or 12 of the old metal Wolf Guard Terminators all painted up, some of which I still use. However, I too have purchased the new plastic Terminator set, and intend to eventually get them built, painted up, and added to the force. In my opinion the plastic models are simply much better for gaming with than the metal ones; here are a few reasons: 1. Using plastic cement, rather than superglue (which is required for metal or combi metal and plastic models), the model parts bond much more securely. 2. When you drop the lighter plastic models they are much less likely to pop apart. 3. The lighter models are also less apt to fall over than the top-heavy metal ones. 4. With the new plastic boxed set, you can build your model almost any way that you want, with whatever armament you want, and can even easily magnetize the arms to allow you swap out configurations. The old metal ones came with no optional arms and static poses. The old boxed set came with 1 Power Weapon, 1 Chainfist, and 3 Power Fist arms, just like the codex Terminator boxed set, which are not the SCCWs that you're going to want for all of your Terminators. They are also much smaller than the newer models, so less impressive altogether. 5. The only advantage that metal models used to have was that you could get a lot better detail than in the plastics. Now that difference is almost negligible with the newer casting technology for the plastic sprues. I, too, have an all metal Grey Knights army, but much prefer the ability to take an almost 100% plastic force with my Space Wolves. Lord Rao
I LOVE my old metal WG models. They were one of the main reasons that sold me on SW all those years ago, and I ain't about to ditch them. In essence, there's nothing actually wrong with them, and sentimentality is what will keep them on my shelf. In fact, I don't mind them sitting on my shelf looking pretty and actually never seeing a game anymore. The biggest con they have now is their poor weapon loadouts, that make no more sense in the new dex. To solve that I can do two things: buy additional metal components to make them 'viable' again, or shell out an equal amount of cash on an whole box of new plastic WG termies, which have enough additional bitz to supply two or three other squads (also in PA) throughout my army. Another downer, nowadays, is their lack of posability. Yes, I have previously converted some to solve this (partially), but they will never be able to hold a candle to the new plastic kit. I spent an entire day making about 12 new plastic termies last week, including the FW kit and many bitz I still had lying around and using one box of the new WG kit, and I haven't had as much fun converting and glueing in years! I now have some of the coolest minis I have ever owned, and I am so proud of them. Awesome. The only metal WG Termy I still regularly use is the old Rune Priest termy: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/...dId=prod1101932 Cuz I just can't bring myself to use Njall for every battle, and I love the old runed up force axe! And it's only slightly smaller than the new ones, which is easily solved by sticking thin plastic 'soles' under his feet...
