Hey guys! I'm new to the pre heresy side of 40k and i was realizing that the marines all have different legs than the normal marines.

I was wondering if you could tell me how you guys get enough of them to make an army or if there is a way to make them? or am i just seeing wrong pictures and is it actually ok to use the normal legs.

thanks guys

Welcome Wolf Lord 123!

Now...about the legs:

Firstly, you CAN use the standard legs to some extent. The ones without the kneepads belong to the MkVI "Corvus" armour (see the beakie helmet), so you can use those since the MkVI was used during the heresy. The ones with kneepads can be converted to MkV legs by adding studs to the shins, or to MkIV legs by carefully cutting the kneepads off and green-stuffing square pads, with the upper corners of each pad rounded off a bit. If you're an extremely good green-stuffer you can also convert the standard legs to MkIII or even MkII armour, butI can tell you from experience that it's hellishly difficult.

The easiest way to go is simply to use the legs as they are, without giving it too much thought; the important parts are the torso and the helmet; if you get those right, the legs shouldn't be too much of a problem.

There are a few models who have older mark leg armour - for example, one of the marines in the Assault on Black Reach Box wears MkIV leg armour, as do some Chaplain models. Also, some Character models (Sgt. Chronus) and one of the Space marine metal commanders wear MKIII legs. Herbrecht of the Black Templars wears MkII leg armour.

Hope that helped!

The best way to do it is to buy the figures of earlier styles of armor and figure it out for yourself.

MkIV legs don't just have different knee pads but the front and rear halves are separate pieces. It is easy to do, just scribe a line going down the side of the leg.

MkIII isn't too hard to convert either. Scribe the lines like on the MKIV to get the front and back halves. On the back you can either scribe horizontal lines to get the different segments or cut out a lot of the back area, fill it with greenstuff, and work it from there. Add some easy greenstuff power cables to each calf. Then make the kneepad circular with a hobby knife, file, and sanding stick, or however you want.

What I really want to do is scratchbuild some mark 2 and 3 legs and then cast them in resin.

pre heresy is super fun!

mk2 crusade I've seen only gs self sculpted but you may find some rotten one in the plaguebearers range..

mk3 iron armour legs you can find on metal models such as this http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/...dId=prod1060015 or this http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/...dId=prod1530007

mk4 maximus armour legs with squared pads are available on one model in egressus ater..find it..

mk5 heresy armour I made myself with mk6 halving the kneepads and adding some tubes and studding..note the most recent version of mk5 helmet is also in egressus..on the missile launcher dude..might need some studs..

mk6 corvus armour are available in sm kits..those without kneepads..and some vets also got it..http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1020021&prodId=prod1560134

mk7 aquila armour is everywhere

mk8 errant armour complete there's just one sternguard vet http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/...dId=prod1560132

P.S. this list do not consider legion of the damned models since they are ACTUAL SIZE marines..yes..if you ain't noticed this yet..they are..or they are closer to what they should be.. :P

I've developed complete standard size kits in resin and or metal for armours from mk3 to mk6 (heresy period) missing only mk2..PM me if you need any..
