Land Raider Ares, "Gate of Redemption"

Thanks guys, appreciate it a lot ;)

About the titan, yeah now that you mention it I do think I've read that somewhere before... Oh well, guess I'll just have to field my two terminus ultras with some titan hammer squads and take the right to the name by force ;)

I have the two hatches.. somewhere... not sure where though. I'll see if I can find them, and if I do I'm likely to do some converisons on them as well since just having plain plates there would probably look out of place since everything else is so ornate.

So black highlights still to do, and after that it's just a general clean-up of the places that I've managed to smudge, then it's off to the Hall of Honour, but I'll post here first :)

Found the hatches! *they were on my fellblade ;) *

Ok, I'm now at a loss though... I can put the hatches on, but what to do with them!?

I honeslty think it will be to plain with just the naked hatches on there, with the rest of the shield so ornate.

What I was considering was either:

1.Green stuffing flames up from the bottom in a I\__/I pattern, to create a U-curve effect on the bottom flames, with the statues hands ending in the flames.

2.Green stuff hands from the statues onto the hatches, palms onto the hatch, so it looks like the statues are holding them closed.

3.Leave them blank and just do highlights like the rest.

4.Leave the haches off completly.

The problem with 1 is that I'll be risking the paintjob a little and I'll have to work around a bit to make sure there wont be a line between old and new flames.

Issue with 2 is that I'm not confident that Im good enough to make the hands look good, and end up with meatloaf hands..

So what do you guys think? And does nyone else have any ideas? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

leave them off, not worth the risk, and that way makes the frag lainchers look like they might have a use firing through them when needed.... (like a low strength flamer, grapeshot style....)

or, can they rock BACK on thier hinges, as opposed to forward?

been lurking on this topic. needless to say, I hate you so much you talented, first rate modeller and painter you :P.

I think the hatches don't work. The crenelations fit with the feel of the model. It would be flimsy, but how about modelling a sword in both the guardians hands, pointing over the blade, honour guard style. Though whatever you choose, I have faith it will look great

Options #1 or #4. I don't see the middle ground working here. Right now, I'm leaning more toward #4 (agree on the frag launchers comment), though I think you could make #1 work.

pueriexdeus: The hands were originaly holding the sword that is now on the roof ( cities of death wall piece ) so I had to cut their hands of to mount them on the shield sadly. And I wont be putting anything there since I'm going with #4, their poses make up for their lacking anatomy I hope :)

Well I've just spent about 3,5-4 hours sitting with my nose against the hull doing black highlights, and my friends, I think I'm done!

I went over every friggin' edge with 2 shades of gray, some edge with a 3rd, then back over EVERYTHING with chaos black to clean up and straighten/thin out lines.

My back is killing me and my head is filled with cotton, but this is without a doubt my best mini so far.

Both in conversion and in painting. This might well be the result of the fact that I don't think I've ever put so much time and energy into a mini before.

Thanks a milion to everyone that's helped me out with ideas, feedback and just general encouragement, it really makes the entire difference! :)

Better pics will be taken tomorrow when the light is better and I can actually focus enough to put up a "studio", and I'll then post it in the Hall of Honour.

Cheers!

That is beautiful B) Although the random green engine cowling at the back puts me off abit, but thats just my personal taste.

And it is now in the hall of honour with some fluff and better pics!

Thanks once again to everyone :)

Loken86: I used skull white and blue ink ( that was the only blue paint I had home ). Mix them first, then start highlighting, and a washed out layer of blue ink, with a final highlight. Just play around with it for a bit and you should get the hang of it real quick my friend ;)

Azeikel: The green is to tie it together with my army, as my color scheme is white( sephia ) and green with small amounts of black details.

If you want to know the reason begind the different paint scheme just go to the Hall of Honour and check out the fluff about its origins :)

Next project: Stripp sternguards and redo them ( 25 sterns... ) But that will be in another thread when time comes.

Cheers!

Loken86: It's actually really simple, just getting rid of the normal doors, putting a slab of plasticard there instead to fill it out and glue it on. Later tonight (going to miami today to get a horse) I'll see if I can take some pics from underneath, that way you can see how the shield is fitted to the hull

Ok, Loken86, here are some pics of how I put the front on. Sorry it took me so damn long to get them up *mental kick in the backside*.

As you can see t fits quite well and without much cutting. The ramp I attached to the insides of the tracks, simply because it was the easiest way, and with the size of the shield you can't really see were they attach.

The best thing to do would probably be to buy them both and then build them together as you can then see what to put on and what to leave off. I bought the LR second hand, so it was built, and poorly so ( no ramp for example, as you can see I had to put a slab of plasticard there. But it's invisible unless you flip the tank over, so it's all good  ).

The only things you'll likely have to do converting is the top part of the front, meaning next to the cannon. That and of course if you want to enlargen the shield ;)

Which, IMHO, is needed since the shield in it's normal form just barely (if even) covers the tracks width.

Hope that helps brother! :)

Tomevans: Thanks mate :P Golden daemon might be a bit too rich for me, but I was considering sending a few pics to GW and see if they'd like to put it in a white dwarf, online or where ever they might feel some inspiration is needed. ( so if anyone knows where the best place would be to email the pics, let me know ;) )
