Quillen
I thought you could buy one and then just send him to a Grey Hunter pack as a leader. I thought this was fine, since you were not fielding the Wolf Guard pack you did not need 3. If you were fielding the pack you needed at least 3 in the unit thou. Yet when I used Army Builder it's all griping cause I do not have 3 Wolf Gaurd. Is it just a bug with Army Builder or do I actually have to have 3 freaking WG wondering around? Tried the search and a million hits and nothing on Wolf Gaurd specific I could so. So please no bitching about search function. TiguriusX
Minimum size is 3. You split them off as pack leaders after the unit has been purchased...and the minimum purchase is 3 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188289-ok-on-wolf-gaurds/#findComment-2227769 Share on other sites

You have to buy 1 Pack from the Elite choice with a minimum of 3 models and a maximum of 10 models in the pack. Once you've got your pack of 3-10, then you can "peel off" Wolf Guard and reassign them to those units that can have them (pretty much every unit but TWC packs and SkyClaws packs), but no more than 1 Wolf Guard can be assigned to the same pack as a leader (i.e. you can't send two Wolf Guard to lead the same Grey Hunter Pack). You can even "peel off" all of the Wolf Guard from their original pack to lead other packs, thus leaving you with a Wolf Guard pack of zero models. So, yes, you need a minimum of 3. Is your list over in the army list section? What is it that you are trying to do with a single Wolf Guard in your entire army? Is it not something that you could do with one of your IC's instead? Quillen
I had 50 points left and I thought maybe I should just chunk a WGP leader into a GH pack. Simple way to use the points and beef the pack. I now have 50 points I can;t really use the way I am building them. GRRRRR! Aurick
No. Wolf Guard run in a pack together, or they lead a pack of others. They don't tagteam lead. Meaning you cant seperate Wolf Guards from the pack and have multiples in the same non WG pack. Valerian
And would give up a Kill Point on death. Which is pretty sucky. But, it is also a very unlikely scenario. If you are going to bother to buy the Wolf Guard minimum unit of 3, it isn't at all hard to find 3 units in your army to assign them to as leaders. It would be very much the exception, rather than the norm, to "be forced" to leave that last remaining Wolf Guard all on his own. Skirax
The way I see it, there are three points of battle; 1. Picking the Army List. 2. Assigning ICs to different units, and specail units like wolf guard. 3. The Battle. You have to follow the layout strictly - It's like saying that you don't need to buy Rhino's because it says in the GH section; Can choose either a Rhino, Razorback etc... So that could be something look at. And it is 2pts cheaper. stinkenheim
its really simple. when you buy WG, regardless of what you plan to do with them you MUST buy 3 (the minimum number allowed in the unit). You can then take as many as you want to lead one unit each (i.e no more than one WG in a non WG unit) Any that are left are treated as a single unit during the game and may be joined by characters. This does mean that you may have a single wolf guard once and only once all he others have been assigned to lead units. BlackSpike
If you buy 3 WG, and split all 3 of them off to lead other packs, does this give away a KP, as there are no members left in the squad? Or do you have to kill all of the other squads? Or do they not count at all? JamesI
If all the Wolf Guard are split off to lead other packs, the Wolf Guard pack does not exist and does not give up a kill point.
