Dealing with the Tyranid menace

So I am having an interesting read through the numerous rumour round ups across the net about the 'nid dex. What do people identify as the newer threats we will encounter and how would we look at countering them?

Bio-Electric attacks look pretty nasty, as does the Zoanthrope's Warp Lance and Lightning. Thankfully we get Rune Priest dispels against those.

They also have a lot of upgrade options that make them even more painful in CC (reducing WS to 1 or causing extra AoE poison wounds for example).

I don't want to be forced to take a Rune Priest in every game to counter the meta game from Chaos, Eldar and Nids but it's looking that way.

Im thinking that Choosers of the Slain are going to be alot handier once the nids are out, wich just reinforces the goodness or Rune Priests in this sense.

Wolf Tails will become required equipment... I already think they are.

Whirlwinds, MLs, Lascannons and lots and lots of bolters.... not much changes here.

Storm Shields might become a bit more common on wolf gaurd though.

The 'nids got a pshycic attack that does not need a roll, does wolf tail talisman protect against that as well? What about Rune armour?
Yes, because they dont stop the power from going off... they just protect you and your unit if you get hit.

I would say that false rumours and conjecture as being the biggest threats.

In all seriousness, let's wait until the codex is out or pictures of it are leaked before deciding that the sky is falling and 'Codex Creep' has run rampant.

C:SW had loads of rumours that turned out to be false and I have no doubt that the same will be the case for Codex: Bugs.

In any case, I don't think I'll be going wrong with my current favoured setup of 15 MLs, Njal, 2 TL-LC Razorbacks an d4 squads of GHs...

ps. I have heard that Codex: Tyranids have been delayed. There were too many bugs in it :P

Terrible, just terrible. You deserve to have some models broken just for that.

What you say is actually true - wait til the book is on general release and we'll see how good and bad things really are (Trygon and Carnifex respectively). If they do get a boost in their psychic section (which they need at this stage) then RP with Choosers are going to be even more popular than they are already.

Still, losing Eternal Warrior from Synapse means that my lovely Rune Priest will be hunting stuff with his Force Weapon. ;)

Haha that RP comment is so true. I actually just dropped Warrior Born off him b/c a). it's expensive and . with that nifty Force Weapon he can actually do some damage now to big nasty things, so long as he gets a chance to hit...

I know this may sound dumb to some bothers, but I actually think Lone Wolves will come in handy against the new 'nids. They're the perfect tarpit for a TMC or even a load of gribblies, depending on the loadout. And really for what amounts to a cheap WGBL (from the old 'dex) why not use them as a tarpit. My main Lone Wolf now, Thor, clocks in at 95 points and is in essence a 3 wound beast. he' got Termi armor, TH/SS, and Fenrisian Wolf. That's basically a 3 wound model who rerolls hits on anything nasty (i.e. Big Bugs) and for at least 2 of those wounds, he can't be ID'd! So sure Mawloc or Trygon, attack him and watch as he takes the punishment and then hits ya back with S8 goodness.

What do you mean by the expresion tarpit?

He means charge the TH/SS TDA lone wolf into a 32 strong squad of hormagaunts or something, laugh while they try to kill him, then squish a few each turn, tieing up that troops unit in a "tarpit" so it can't make a nuisance of itself. Its delightful against orks and IG conscript squads.

the spanish and german version were leaked already , considering how pissed my boss was it looks like the english version was leaked too.

the thing with nids is that A they got slower unless they use infiltaration [lictors cant charge when they come , guants dont have 12" charge] and SW already play with anti infiltration stuff , so the stealer shock army is owned . if they use trygons they still cant charge [nor the unit they come with ] and trygons die from melta spam and fists/th sw run everywhere [+ they can always run a GK GM for an extra rangless psychic hood and a str 6 force weapon that ingores eternal warrior] . the LF spam lists blows any warrior build sky high [cover or not T4 without eternal warrior means your dead against 15RL +fists/THetc] . SW dont even have to tailor or change their list from what they use now to counter the new nids.

the only thing nids can try to is a guant swarm list with moving cover , extra unit production and FnP and swarm lord , supported by some zoats , maybe if those builds will be played a lot people will start puting 2 cheap whirldwinds [or start spaming 15 frag RL] .

:-) That's exactly right. Though my basic troops choice tarpit is Baldr, fully kitted out with 2 wolves and a FA/SS. I'm going to enjoy watching weak troops die little by little every turn..death by a thousand paper cuts if you will. Thor is more of a tarpit for TMC's and such, seeing as he has a 2+/3+ and is immune to ID and packs a thunderhammer. All I really need to do is inflict 1 wound on a TMC and for every round following we strike at the same I, meaning a better chance he inflicts more wounds. Basically aim him at anything big and nasty that you don't want hitting your lines or disrupting your plan and laugh as he keeps it distracted for a few turns.

Anyone have luck with LW's so far? Personally it's been a mixed bag for me. I usually start them at the very front edge of my deployment zone to ensure they get to grips faster.

I think though for the new 'Nids our army as a whole so far is fairly well prepared. Cheap flamers/meltas in line squads, Thunderwolf Cav for some nice counter attacks, LW tarpits, solid psychic abilities, and strong basic HQ's means we have a better grasp against them. I think Murderous Hurricane and Tempest's Wrath will be extremely handy for the new 'Nids b/c it'll force some of their army to lose one of their greatest strengths: speed.

Plus driving an RP around in a Rhino popping off Tempest's every turn means basically no Spore Pod or other DS unit will come close without risk. He can basically create a nice little anti-DS bubble around him and other nearby units.

I agree wed are well prepared, take this for example, most marine tactical squads would be eaten alive by things like a carnifex, but we can take two special weapons (i.e. plasma, melta), a plasma pistol, a power fist, and a wulfen, and if you add a wolf priest to the mix, you got one nasty unit <_<

Would the Blood Claws be making a come back with the release of thenew Nids? I wonder what 60 S4 attacks on the charge would do to a Hormagaunt squad.

Reduce it to a gory paste?

Except those little critters seems to be striking before us now (I5), and are twice or thrice as many as the little whelps.. just the way we like it. :D

I take it you like understatements :) . Oh well, I guess the 'nidlies will finally give me an excuse to buy a LRC and build a WG pack leader for my blood claws. Im thinking 2x wolf claws, delightful weapons those...
