Tormented
Hello all, this is my first story about warhammer ever. I'm aiming to to make this as action filled and plausible as possible, i hope you all enjoy. C&C is greatly appreciated whilst negativity can take a running jump into the warp, thanks  Without further ado here we go; Chapter 1 The world of Larin was a large industrial world situated on the edge of Tau space, it produced munitions and Leman Russ battle tanks for the Imperial war machine and each year it formed a regiment of five thousand men to fight the many wars of the Imperium. However for several years no Imperial ships arrived to pick up its neither munitions nor tanks and each regiment raised was not assigned a war zone; due to the immense Imperial bureaucracy Larin was forgotten. The planetary governor and now self proclaimed Emperor had claimed that they had been forsaken and that this “mighty Imperium had fallen” and that they had to fend for themselves. The Tau tried to invade Larin but failed, Larin’s large and experienced armoured companies and mechanized infantry staving off each invasion. With no ships capable of warp travel the people of Larin were cut off from the Imperium, having fought off the Tau they truly fought they were invincible and that they could survive in a harsh galaxy and that the once beneficent Emperor and his armies who they believed in would let them go unpunished. This was not the case. On Terra in the Administratum bureaucrats were as ever going over planetary tithes, troop deployment; all the logistics of war and of a galactic empire. It was then noticed that Larin had not contributed towards the Imperial war effort for some years and that there were outstanding munitions, tanks and soldiers ready to be picked up. However when Imperial vessels broke from warp and made contact with Larin they had a rude awakening. The ships Larin possessed fired immediately upon the Imperial ships; lightly armed and few in number they were quickly destroyed but an astropathic distress signal was sent through the darkness of the warp, but it was too late. The distress call was picked up by Velerius, an epistolary of the Iron Talons chapter. The Iron Talons are an 8th founding chapter; descending from the Raven Guard. Farnex is a feral world in which the Iron Talons derive from, how ever due to their crusading nature they recruit from many other worlds too; but have a fondness for Farnex and keep a permanent stronghold there. The Iron Talons deviate from the Codex, especially in chapter size. The chapter was roughly between three to five thousand warriors; with recent Imperial estimates placing them closer to five thousand. The chapter was split up into smaller crusading forces known as Talons; each Talon varies in size from seventy Space Marines up to eight hundred; a permanent Talon of three hundred marines is stationed upon Farnex to guard it and its system. Another permanent Talon is the 1st Talon known as the “Talon of the Emperor”; this was the Chapter masters Talon and of what other chapters would call the 1st company. The Iron Talons fleet was also large to accommodate its crusading nature. It had four ancient battle barges and numerous strike cruisers and frigate. The “Talon of the Emperor” however used a small star fort and a contingency of strike cruisers to transport its warriors. Velerius was an epistolary in the Talon of Ravar, a force of roughly one thousand marine, seven hundred of which were neophytes. Ravar was second in command of the Iron Talons and held the rank “Talon Regent”. He was a huge man towering even over other space marines. He was recruited from Farnex and was the son of the world’s most powerful chieftain; by the time he was ten he had earned the name Ravar “Man Slayer”. He had fought many dangerous beasts and champions of tribes, killing each with strength and skill at arms. He lead armies to countless victories conquering tribe after tribe, when it was time for the “Trials of the Talon” Ravar eagerly took part. He climbed to the highest peak of Farnex’s mountains to pluck a feather from a giant eagle that resided there with a hand-crafted sword. Ravar survived the journey through the “Valley of Dread” to the hidden stronghold of the Iron Talons where he was inducted into the chapter. Having proved his physical abilities he then was tested for genetic compatibility; his tribe however had given many great warriors to the Iron Talons and Ravar was to be no exception, his genes were said to be perfect. He quickly rose through the ranks, fighting all over the galaxy against alien and heretic alike; it mattered not who his foe was Ravar would slay them none the less. Now Ravar commands a Talon of his own, bringing the Emperors justice to all. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188333-the-iron-talons/ Share on other sites
Tormented
Chapter 2 “My lord, I have picked up a distress call from a planet known as Larin, shall we answer this?” Velerius, his voice heavy and low. Ravar towered over him wearing a simple white robe, his bulging muscles barely contained by the fabric. “We are instruments of His will, weapons of war. Neither Xenos nor heretic can stand in our way; with fire in our hearts and prayer on our lips we will purge this galaxy of the unclean. Those who dare oppose us will feel our wrath”, Ravar had knelt to the floor and had begun to light incense. “If an Imperial distress call is sent and we receive it, it is the will of the Emperor for us to answer!” Ravar spoke, his voice soft and relaxed. Velerius nodded and left the room. Soon the Talon of Ravar would make war; the traitorous planet of Larin would feel the wrath of the Iron Talons. Like an arrow through the air the battle barge “Hammer of Faith” traversed through the warp, its strike cruiser companions, “Courage” and “Honour” following suit. A dozen sword frigates escorting the fleet. Like a fist the fleet punched through into real space, surprising the small Larin fleet. Although out numbered by the Larin fleet the more heavily armed and armour Iron Talon fleet quickly subdued the rebel ships turning them into space detritus quickly. Larin had no moon and thus no other orbital defence other than planetary guns how ever the marine force would quickly be deployed with the fleet awaiting in a near by asteroid field. Ravar had instructed that the neophytes that made up seventy percent of his force would land upon the planet to fight the rebel force. This was to be the final act of initiation into his Talon; the victorious neophytes would be then given the black carapace and their transformation into fully fledged Space Marines complete. Several predators, whirlwinds and land speeders would also be deployed in support of the force, with Ravar leading from the front as usual. Larin was made up of four continents all in close proximity of each other. Three of them were designated Larin Prime, Secondus and Tertiary. The fourth continent was not assigned a target as of yet, it was the smallest and most mountainous of the continents. However is home the governors palace and fortress. The size of the fortress and its defences was unknown as most of it lay under ground. It matter not, Ravars plan was to draw the planets forces out of the fortress and engage him in the cities and towns of Larin. His scouts would sabotage Larin’s industries, blowing up factories, power plants. Ravar smiled at the fact of brining another world into the Imperial fold. Like birds of prey Thunder hawk gun ships descended upon Larin Secondus, the neophytes eager to deliver the Emperors wrath. The mountains of Larin Secondus provided an ideal landing point for the Thunder hawks. Dark Apostle Thirst
Not bad. You might want to proofread it, correct the few mistakes, reword some sentences to make them sound smoother, so that they flow better. The normal. This intresting as of yet, keep writing. Tormented
Chapter 3 Ravar stood at the ridge of hill, over looking the sprawling city below. Unlike other Imperial cities that were built upwards in hives, this city spread outwards like a stain upon the land. "Easier to assault" Ravar thought, "Brother Techmarine Cason, form a defensive perimeter with the heavy bolter and lascannon tarantulas”. Ravar ordered over the micro-bead. Ravar surveyed his force; seven hundred scouts, five whirlwinds and five predators; one third of Ravar’s total predators and whirlwinds. Three squadrons of land speeders hovered above the ground; their pilots making the final checks before flight. “We are instruments of His will! We are tasked in taking this world, bringing it back into his light! With bolters we will purge the heretics and rebels! We will show them the consequences of their actions, they will feel our wrath!” Chaplin Arkos strode up and down the lines of the Iron Talon force, shouting out lines from prayers to inspire the marines; cherubs flew over head spraying incense into the air. Scrolls and purity seal adorned his black power armour, his helmet shaped into that of a skull, he looked liked death incarnate. The ground rumbled as the predators headed into a cave system, their armoured might not yet needed. “Brother-Sergeant Varil, commence bombardment of the enemy city below.” Ravar ordered. Once again the ground shook as the whirlwinds moved into position, their turreted missile launchers turning towards the city below. In a flurry of smoke and fire and high pitch whining missile after missile was fired, in less than two minutes fifty vengeance patter missiles snaked towards their targets with perfect precision. The missiles were lost in the clear blue sky of Larin; then clouds of smoke filled the sky line as the missiles exploded on their targets. The city below erupted into flames, fires rampaged through the city. Below panicked citizens fled into the streets as buildings burnt down around them. In the distance the armoured figures of chimeras could be seen heading towards the city. Servitors sluggishly reloaded the whirlwinds missile launchers, as they prepared to fire another salvo. “Squad Nexus you are to move on the power plant in the east of the city. Once you have neutralised it we will move on the city.” Ravar instructed over the comms. Ten figures began to move, all except one were armed with bolt pistols and combat knives with one carrying a heavy bolter. They headed off into the east, theres the first mission in the down fall of Larin.
