Most people do personal sculpts out of GS and Terminators.

I found an awesome one on Tempus Fugitives, though I can't find the url... I'll searchy on Google.

I found it! I found it! I FOUND IT!

Edit: Woah, that picture below looks bad. Seriously, was that meant to be a Primarch? :D

That old mini of Russ (the one that's sprayed white) is indeed for the Primarch. Do remember that it wasn't until a few years ago that the primarchs were actually portrayed as being significantly bigger than even a Space Marine. So, Russ being only the size of a normal Marine was nothing strange. The sculpt is okay, certainly if you remember that it was made shortly after the RTB set (the first multi-part plastic Marines set) - compared to that the detail is amazing.

I have it and I can't bring myself to toss it out. I'd only ever use the cloak now, though. The posing is kinda sad, and the equipment is nothing special either. Though I can't even begin to imagine what a Primarch would actually look like nowadays. And, frankly, I hope they never release one, because with the mythical beings they are now that would be GW jumping the shark...

The Primarchs and the origins of the Astartes are undoubtedly one of (if not the biggest) retcons that GW has pulled. Back in the days of Rogue Trader, Russ was a Commander in the Imperial Guard, as was Gulliman, the Space Marines were little more than very tough humans with fancy armour and the Crimson Fists and Rainbow Warriors were pre-eminent Chapters. Oh, how times have changed... :) Personally I like the new version Primarchs though... gives the Heresy a greater feeling of tragedy.

As for Primarch Models, well, there were some a long time ago, but now it's mostly custom sculpts.

I have the old rogue trader one and I love it... the cloak is actually the best part, and the rest of the model is decent, especially considering when it was made. The model paints up really well and I use it as my "default" Wolf Lord.

My favorite part about him, though, was the two wolves that came with. My group refers to them as "Coyote Wolves" due to their lean build, but I really like them... really nice models (haven't painted them yet, though)

Go Fonzi!

The Primarchs and the origins of the Astartes are undoubtedly one of (if not the biggest) retcons that GW has pulled. Back in the days of Rogue Trader, Russ was a Commander in the Imperial Guard, as was Gulliman,

Russ was not a Commander in the Imperial Guard. He was an "Imperial Commander" of the Space Wolves chapter of Space Marines. I quoted the old Rogue Trader book with the exact passage once here for the Fang. Since I'm not home where that book is, to quote it again, I'll do a search to see if I can find it and Edit the passage back into this post.

Edit - Here it is:

Actually, Leman Russ was originally a "Marine Commander" of the Space Wolves, not an Imperial Guard Commander. There is a one-pager about him, with a picture, in the original Rogue Trader rulebook (page 27). In it, Leman Russ was "Born 2612016, M32, Guranta D Gurantan system. Commissioned Adeptus Terra as a special agent 0134041, M32. First rose to imperial notice during Lucan Crusade. Appointed Imperial Commander Lucan 033042, M32. Instrumental in founding Adeptus Astartes unit 4 'Spacewolves'. Suffered severe alviola damage during acid storms on Susa. Transplanted with model cybron-osmotic gill."

Note that the above quote says "Imperial Commander" and not "Imperial Guard Commander", big difference there.

Also of note, is Lucan, which is mentioned both for the Crusade, and that Leman Russ was appointed Imperial Commander of Lucan. Lucan was the original homeworld of the Space Wolves, before it was retconned to Fenris.
