Dwars
Hi all, i'm going well with my wolf army almost at 2500 points now. so a 3th hero will be nice next to a wolf priest and a rune priest. I want a rock hard super hero. the hero i came up with is Ivan Wulfblood son of Fenris; Wolf lord in TDA with wolf claw and storm shield, Melta bombs, Wolf tail talisman and saga of the Warrior Born @ 225 points. what do you think of him? thx all dwars Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188381-tda-wolf-lord/ Share on other sites
Skirax
It's ok, Though I think you could have a harder guy with 2 WC, TDA, Belt, Saga Bear, Wolftooth Tal, 2x wolves at 220 (I think) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188381-tda-wolf-lord/#findComment-2228957 Share on other sites

Grey Mage
Sama, thats what he already posted up, just minus Meltabombs.. wich actually arent a bad idea. @ Dwars: Personally I think that the extra attack from another wolf claw and the price of a belt of russ is probly a better way to go. Hes tough right now, and wolf lords are always killy.... but Id personally edge towards the killier side of things. Still, he should be a good hero for you, as youve got all the tools for the job so to speak. AdeptusDavidus
I'm puzzled. If you're going to take either a Belt of Russ or a Storm Shield, why take Tactical Dreadnought Armour over Runic Armour? A Wolf Lord with Belt of Russ, twin Claws, and Runic Armour costs the same as a Lord with Belt of Russ, twin Claws, and TDA, has the same armour and invulnerable saves, and can perform a sweeping advance, and fits more easily into transports. In fact, the same is true if the Lord is kitted with Thunder Hammer & Storm Shield, and the Runic Armour Lord can opt for a frost blade. I'm certainly not trying to say you guys are wrong to recommend TDA, I'm just puzzled as to why that seems the obvious choice. With the WL and WGBL the Runic armor saves you points too! And psyker wound protection to boot. SamaNagol
Some people like the look of TDA better. We were talking about this the other day. With Runic Armour you can also take the Storm Shield/Frost Blade combo too. I left that out since this discussion seemed to be more about game mechanics and list building - two areas I'm, admittedly, extremely weak in. I was posting more as a question than a refutation. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188381-tda-wolf-lord/#findComment-2229471 Share on other sites

TDA is sometimes the obvious choice because the new plastics for TDA are terrific, and you can build a large and impressive model to represent your Wolf Lord easily with the new sprues. Runic Armor can be as good, or even better, for its rules, however, we do not have a particularly great way to build/model/represent Runic Armor above and beyond the Power Armor sprues of the Space Wolves Pack boxed set. That is probably why a lot of folks may overlook Runic Armour when thinking about their Heroes. Dwars
thx for all the replys peeps! i realy like the runic armour/belt combo with the twin claws. i will try him to, he can be a 4th hero. i think he will join a unit of 15 blood claws. the TDA was only so he can lead TDAWG. now i think i will use the claws of canis for the model. thx all cheers dwars Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188381-tda-wolf-lord/#findComment-2229603 Share on other sites
SamaNagol
If you own Canis, personally I would use those very nice Claws (if you won the lottery and got a cast where they aren't mishapen) on another model, such as a Wolf Lord. Then convert yourself some new arms to give 'Canis' a Thunderhammer and Storm Shield and run him as either the first member of a TWC unit or as another Wolf Lord or WGBL. Canis as it stands it pretty weak. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188381-tda-wolf-lord/#findComment-2229723 Share on other sites

SamaNagol
Well he is an IC with no invulnerable save, who still dies on a 2+ to wound roll from Power Fists. So spending he points on him when a Lord on a TWM with Saga, WTN, Hammer and Storm Shield isn't much more expensive. Grey Mage
Because he can wipe out an entire squad before they have a chance to hit him with that powerfist? And because youd be silly not to accompany him with I 5 FWs as a bodygaurd of sorts. Sure, they cant take the hit for him in CC, but they sure can get alot of attacks off before most any opponent. SamaNagol
You're still spending a huge amount of points on something that will die in one round of combat. When you could spend another 40 pts and get something that will stick around. Grey Mage
*shrugs* only if dice rolls are bad, or I make a mistake.... either of wich could result in that more expensive WL dying. And if you want saga of the bear and the 4++ its more like 65pts.
