Anyone run 3 landraiders in 1500 pts.?

Wasn't sure how viable it could be, but you can squeeze 3 landraiders with extra armour and 3 grey hunter packs into each with a wolf guard and rune priest.

Look something like this:

2 of the following:

Land Raider with extra armour (265)

-1 WG with combi-melta and PF (43)

-1 Flamer (160)

-1 Standard

-1 MotW

-6 base

3rd One remove one base marine and add a 110 pt. rune priest.

Question is, could this list work well and lastly, which land raider would be best to take? I was thinking the TLLC Landraiders to combat AV 13/14 or possible 2 with TLLC and maybe the rune priest one as a crusader so that you have a bit more anti infantry fire if you start popping transports.

Thoughts?

Id consider running an all landraider list if it was for a fluff-based preheresy army.

20 GHs, 15 Bloodclaws, a Wolf Priest, 2 Standard Landraiders, and a Crusader in about 1500pts.

But Id feel cold, naked, and vulnerable the whole time I played it.

With the requirement of 3 LR in a 1500pt army you are really limiting your options. I see 2LR working well but 3 just doesn't leave enough points to go around.

Here is the best I could come up with after thinking about it for a while

265 LRR Melta + EA

195 10xGH 2xMelta + Wolf Standard + MOTW + PW

43 WG Combi-melta + PF

125 WGBL PW + Saga of Warrior

265 LRR Melta + EA

195 10xGH 2xMelta + Wolf Standard + MOTW + PW

43 WG Combi-melta + PF

260 LR Melta + EA

75 5xGH Flamer

33 WG TDA + SB/PW

1499 Total

You rely on your LR meltas to chase down vehicles while your 2 GH have to deal with assaulting....seems like too small of an army to be effective

The WGBL is the cheapest hero I could come up with that will be a potential game changer (WP + 14xBC costs too much).

I would almost be tempted to keep everything in reserve to start the match

As Tig said, 1500 is really tight.

At 1850 and up it becomes doable, though certain armies will give you fits, such as IG with Melta spam and such.

It is a blast to play though, and in my opinion worth doing if you have the cash for the models...

If you want to try it for fun go ahead but I really don't think a list like this would be viable. It just lacks any real punch whatsoever, you're sitting around hoping your opponent can't bust armor 14. If he can, you're screwed.

Assuming you stay in your tanks, and assuming they move, your shooting is 6 weapons at best. Six shooting attacks are not going to win you games.

If you get out of the tanks, they have most of an army shooting at your grey hunters. If they kill them, you loose.

The land raiders plus minimum core do not leave many points for any meaningful cc units.

If you do find a way to make it work, let me know. Would be interesting.

Thoughts?

Personallly. I'd thank you for handing me the game before Turn 1 had even begun...

Land Raiders simply can't pump out enough pain to be able to take out scoring units, and since you'll want to go full out towards the enemy to ge tinto CC you'll only get one shot per turn until you're in CC.

The Land Raider Redeemer obviously needs to be close, so the same applies, except that until you're close enough to assault/Flamestorm you can at least use the TL-ACs. But you still need to be within 2 feet to do any damage...

The Land Raider Crusader I can't really say too much about, as I've enver used it, but it suffers, IMO, from a similar problem to the Redeemer.

Against a list with no anti-tank weaponry, it will excel, but I suspect that unless your opponent rolls absolutely horrendously, any list with even a bit of anti-AV weaponry will destroy this list.

Having said that, I think it could be fun to try against a mate just to see how it might go...

1) Why would you get out of your tank save to assault the enemy?

2) Our GH+BCs ARE meaningful CC units.

1) to shoot the enemy or to capture objectives while the land raiders did other stuff

2) By meaningful I mean able to counter the enemies army through assault. BCs and GHs are good troops for cc, but against an ork horde or 'nid swarm you will most likely hit a wall of infantry and be whittled down over 2 or three turns. Dying gloriously surrounded by broken enemies may be fun fluff-wise, but it won't win you the game.
