Close Calls

Just finished up a 3000 point match against a "Green Tide" style ork army. Roughly 170 boyz plus trukks and looted wagons. We played for kill points with "L" shaped deployment zones in opposing table corners. Game ended on Turn Six with me managing to stay a step ahead in Victory/Kill points. The entire match was largely hit and fade attacks and the sacrifice of my rhinos to keep his boyz from getting into CC. The plan worked and my wolves survived the tide.

 

If we had not ended on turn 6 the battle would have swung quickly in favor of the orks. There are too many to evade and far too many to kill despite the liberal use of Long Fangs and Heavy Flamer equipped speeders and razorbacks.

 

So have any of you guys had any photo finishes so to speak?

Ive had it work against me twice. Once the game ended on turn 5 with a single hostile tac marine holding the objective for a tie, and another time it was three firewarriors on turn 6. In both cases my wolf lord and skyclaws were just barely out of assault range! Very annoying :D

last weekend i played a 5k game against a imperial fist player. the game was going terribly for the sons of russ, and we lost one of the 5 objectives to a failed tank shot attempt, 1 due to mass bolter fire, and the other i held due to feel no pain fuled command squad. the opponent asked me if i wanted to quit, seeing as i just lost the game and had no troops left, but i said no, i dont want to give him a 4-0 objective win.

on turn 5 my TWC finally finished chewing through a Ironclad Dread, and clear on of his objectives of Troops. Turn 6 the WL on TWC splits from the unit, and they head sperarate ways to the next clost objectives, clearing both in 1 CC phase. Now the only troops on the board belong to the Imperial Fists, about 10 or so guys on the farest objective.

 

so while i still lost the game, i only lost 1-0 and made him panic those those few turns. the TWC put fear into another opponent, which is good, and hopefully i'll be able to repay the favor soon.

Hahaha!!! Thats a great story Kieran, I would have paid to see the look on that guys face!

 

The game was against a good friend of mine, but a dear dear smack talking opponent. So i am very happy i was able to make him scramble for a few turns (turns 1-3 were VERY back and forth, i killed by Kantor with Njal's innate chain lightning and Lysander from my TWC WL.), and reap a very bloody toll amonsgt his Fists. the game actually ended with me having around 1400 pts alive, to him having less than 600.
