DGC
Still yet to play with the new dex, so whilst I plan on my first game I thought about fielding some of our oldest and wisest fighters. Now their price has dropped they seem like a viable addition but as I normally play a mechanised troop list I am unsure what to drop to free up a heavy slot for them. I nearly always take a las packed predator, sometimes a vindicator and or a whirlwind. My troops are packed into rhinos and razors ( three GH and one BC) and are usually accompanied by two dreads (one CC and the other TLLC + ML) and a pack of obel tank--killing scouts. I normally face up against DA but IG and Nids once in a while, and generally play 1500 or 2000pts. So, vs DA or similar, what would you suggest?? Thanks in advance - DGC Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188480-yet-another-long-fang-question/ Share on other sites
Grey Mage
Id suggest a TLLC or Las/plas razorback to cart them around and provide more Firepower, and if you normally take a tri-las predator, consider drooping that for 3-4 long fangs with Lascannons. You play against hordes and marines alot? Then probly 2x LC and 2x PC would be a good way to go, or the old reliable 2x ML 2x LC setup. Skirax
I find a good mix (generated by my good friend Vassakov, with a few changes) is to have 2x LC, 2x HB and PC, the LC's take out tanks, the HB's take out infantry and the PC can pick and choose. Since we have Fire Control, it boosts this setup even further. I assume that if you throw in a WG, he benefits from this, so why not throw in a TDA WG w/ Assualt Cannon? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188480-yet-another-long-fang-question/#findComment-2230208 Share on other sites
DGC
Thanks for the quick replies Grey Mage - I have an unallocated AC Razorback - any good?? Or should I give that to a GH squad and go with an already painted TLLC one?? Skirax -- the mix you mention does seem to be a favorite around at the moment but I have often wondered about using weapons with different ranges. As for the TDA WG + AC - how do I field them with a transport?? I have noticed some buying the RB but obviously not mounting the LF pack inside as it wont carry TDA marines and allowing it to be a taxi or mobile bunker. Is this a viable option for a mechanised troop list?? Would you also be in favour of dropping the Predator to free up a heavy slot or maybe something different?? neonwolf
I was planning on using 2xLas, 2xPlas, 1xML for my Fangs, with an TLAC Razorback. Figured the Las/Plas for both anti-armor/anti-horde and the ML could do either. The Razorback with the TLAC is more for stopping anything that gets closer to the squad than I'd like. I don't have my 'dex on me but I think this setup might provide more versatility than the Pred for possibly less or equal points. DGC
At a quick glance, a bare Pred with LC all round comes in at 175 where as the LF squad mentioned with a TLAC RB would roll in at 265 (190 without the RB) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188480-yet-another-long-fang-question/#findComment-2230236 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
Well I dont run 6 man squads, just fives... so four lascannons + pack leader is 175pts, much more of a bargain. And Id reccommend using the AC razorback with a GH squad that is assault oriented- the weapon is short ranged, but rather versatile, perfect for GHs. TLLC is good at range, and makes a nice team with the LFs IMHO.
