=I= Coming in 2010?

I'm readign a lot of new DH, but anything about the deathwatch or if I want to use deathwatch I must use the sternguard vets?

GW has said they're not planning to make any new armies until all the current codices are updated, so for next several years anyone who wants to play Deathwatch has to work out of Codex:SM. Considering the fact that the Deathwatch are essentially Codex Marines with a lot of veterans and special ammo, a sternguard heavy force led by Kantor is an adequate representation.

Personally, I am not sure GW would want to crank out yet another codex of loyalist marines, especially when the Deathwatch (unlike the Sisters of Battle and Grey Knights) is deployed in squad-sized kill teams rather than large, cohesive forces.

though it is offtopic, I think it is possible to capture the deathwatch fluff in a list by using sternguards. A friend of mine did this and won the fluff award at a turnament this weekend. It should be said that the turnament was played under a number of house rules (most notably making everything with WS scoring) and an army selection system, so it was very much competitive at the turnament aswell :P
About the codex, maybe with the HH series going on, and the Garro audibook coming, can we expect to have the Inq origin explained? :)

Go to the GW website, the specialists games section, and download the free Thorian Handbook for the Inquisitor game.

The origins of the =][= are contained within...

I'm not very found of that book badly written by Thorpe. And I'm not alone with that :P

Fond of it or not, I bring it up because it's a GW published sourcebook for the Inquisitor game, which is GW official fluff for the Inquisition. Even if it has portions we don't like, it is the official founding and background of the Inquisition and who they are. You wondered about the origins of the Inquisition, so I had to point out GW has already revealed them to us

Much as I like the Thorian Sourcebook, it appears that it only tells part of the story of the founding of the Inquisition - i.e those bits to do with the Resurrectionists. There way the HH series is going, it sounds like there's more to the story than just the opponents of Promeus and Moriana - but I guess only time will tell...

And then there are a couple of (rather old) sources that mention the existence of the Inquisition pre-Heresy...

If Matt Ward writes th GK/DH book the cries of "ZOMG cheese!" will be never ending and horribly loud (imagine what the next dex would have to be like to actually give us some rivals).

Although there would probably be an autowin list which I could field... Arrrggghh, the power gaming, its drawing me in, no... I play pure DH for a reason, arrrggghhhh! So boys and girls anyone up for an apocalypse game? I'll be using my multiple all laser reaver titans...

I don't care if people call it cheesy. I want my GKGM to hold it own against a bloodthirster. I want my GKs to woop space marines around. I want my share of winning 75% of the games if I put a bit of effort into it...

Did I mention that I got a 1250pts eldar+1250pts sisters vs 2x1250pts of nids yesterday? The Nids guy (he played both nids armies since we were 3 players) almost tabled us by the end of turn 2 and his 3 units of 15 gargoyles hadn't even entered yet...

Bring on our uber-5th ed. codex, we're entitled to it... I'm just a bit sad that the flow of rumors has gone back towards DE.

It'll come, boys and girls, it'll come, and when it does, oh boy.

I want to pay 100 points for a Justicar who has the stats of a Librarian, keeping/updating as much/many of the rules and wargear as would be fair. I expect that the Force Weapon would function as the NFW now does.

I want to pay 50 points a Grey Knight, but all in Artificer Armour, I5, and with Feel No Pain and a 5+ invul save (joking on the last two) again, as above, keeping/updating as much/many of the rules and wargear as would be fair, and making our Psycannons Rending.

In essance, I want to face down a horde of chaos/mutated xeno scum with 10 men and have a chance of winning but die gloriously in the end anyways. Wait, thats what our book does now. HUZZAH!!! *charges into battle*

Keep in mind that GW likes to drop point costs so you have to buy (and field) more models ^_^

Would be nice if Grey Knights were the exception, but I fully expect GW to lower the points to match their current strength rather than boost them to better reflect their current price.

In a 'new fluff' thread on the BA section there is a discussion on how GK are mentioned in the codex as allies (and apparently crucial in taking out some insidious Greater Demon of Khorne). They see a preparation of a future codex in it. Wether it's true or not... it's nice to see the GK still pop up in other fluff/armybooks/... .

I'd rather see them become more 'elite' to be honest. :)

I'll still buy pretty new GK models regardless of what I already have though. ;)

So do I, part of what makes Grey Knights so interesting is their low number of fielded troops. It'd be a shame if the army that best represents 'quality over quantity' starts fielding tons of models.

My greatest wish is that GW don't just copy/paste standard SM entries into the new codex. If the Stormraven is limited (yeah right!), that's good. Jetbikes, that'd be awesome. Drop pods, more standard-pattern Land Raiders and Rhinos? Blah. They have access to things no one else does, as evidenced by the fact that while the Mechanicus was collectively acting like a baby about the Stormraven, the GK were already using it. Hopefully that'll be reflected with unique options.

There was also a section in the new Space Wolves codex that talks about Grey Knight terminators teleporting in and whooping some daemon behind. What do you think? Marketing ploy to get more people thinking about Grey Knights?

I'd be suprised if allies stay in. First because it mean people have to buy less models (as they can use their existing SMs), second because it causes all sorts of rules and balance issues.

I thinks they're integrating the GKs in the fluff all around, possibly to collectively remind everyone they exist! I'm also pretty sure they'll stay "elity", that is they will cost more than regular marines. My guess is they'll stay around the same price, that the Justicar will be reduced to somewhere around 35pts and that wargear will decrease in price (5 pts incinerator compared to a free flamer, 15 pts psycannon compared to a free Heavy Bolter, etc). They might also gain some regular stuff (frags) and their special rules will be made to work (ie auto-psychic hood when targeted by psychic and demonic powers, a shrouding that actually works). Anyways, I'd be surprised to see armies of 50+ models at 1500pts!

I believe there was a rumor about including self contained allies, ie inducted Guard would have their own write-up in the book kind of like how we've got IST in there already but on a larger scale. Of course, one only needs to look at our IST and compare to the current IG codex ST to see the issues therein.

Blood Angels are coming out April 3rd, so I imagine that GW won't say a peep about the next army before then.

And if the allies rule goes the way of the dodo, good riddance. IG armies with hood and able to turn a large area into a no man's land for deepstriking are ridiculous.

Some discussions regarding the GK mentioned in the Blood Angels codex:

And how they see how some fluff mentioning indicates a codex release. I'm sceptic about such a train of thought but hey... who knows right? :)
