Night Runner
well you could paint them as red wolves and play with the new codex. when blood angels comes out your army will be already painted red. when templars get upgraded you play them as red templars. when new vanilla marine comes out you could play them as sons of gulliman. the easiest color to bandwagon across the board. i painted the wolf kits i bought with ultra marine symbols and ultramarine blue. i even have wolf models i painted as blood angels. I have to admit that is a clever solution, kind of like one size fits all, but I would vote against it. Maybe I'm just an old school fossil, but I think having a bit of loyalty and pride towards your Chapter is a good thing. Would a Liverpool fan support Man.United just because they are currently the strongest team? I don't think so. From where I stand, if you want to play Space Wolves then build a Space Wolves army you are happy with and proud of regardless of their colour and use them as Space Wolves through thick and thin, victory and defeat. Having said that, I really don't mind bandwagoneers for various reasons, and I would even encourage players to build second and third armies especially ones that play differently to SM. Variety of play is a good thing and helps the wargamer grow strategically. Demonslayer
Ok you could paint them red. In the original fluff marines painted their armor for campaigns. So maybe they were attacking a world like mars where the color is redish. Also there is some black and white GW drawings with Space Wolves in Camo. Yes Camo! So it would be fine. That's what at least a third of my Space Wolves army is painted, With the same for shadow grey (Didn't like Space Wolves grey to much, then GW changed it), A few have black armour, and a few with Space Wolves Grey. Finally lots and lots that still need there colours. Will soon all be united under the colours of Shadow grey, unless I find a better colour I like Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188524-red-coloured-space-wolves/page/2/#findComment-2231846 Share on other sites

Hrothgar Beastslayer
I have painted my Wolves with a grey armour and scab red pauldrons with gold rimming, I call them the Hounds of Orion. Pretty much the same thing youve done. But I think that they should stay true to the chapter some how, like my guys have a space wolf grey kneepad on every guy. dizzy-xc
Yeah, the Blood Wolves would be bad ass. Take the Blood Angels and the Space Wolves Codex and mix them together! rodf
I hope that was sarcastic, but in either case I find it in bad taste. nope , i ment it . is a good way to experience all codex and not buy four armies. and red is a good power armor color. Wolfun
I paint mine Shadow grey with different pauldrons. Blood Claws with Sunburst Yellow, Grey Hunters with a SB Yellow and Scab red. I'll be painting my Long Fangs black and red I think. Winterseven
Amazingly enough I painted my 13th Company Blood Wolves in....wait for it ..... yes Red :) !! Actually i use a mix of Adeptus Grey and Shadow Grey for my Grey Slayers and a burnt red for my Blood Claws, check out the pics on my B&C profile. To break up the red I used yellow markings on the shoulder pads and knee pads and grey for the helmets. Funnily enough though when i posted the pics on here the first time round, no-one likened them to Khorne Berzerkers......... But like someone else has already said, it's your army, paint them however you want, i think they look cool, but i am biased :) W7 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188524-red-coloured-space-wolves/page/2/#findComment-2232836 Share on other sites
Freman Bloodglaive
Yeah, went down to see my mum with the girlfriend, just enough snow to say it was white, not enough to make anything of it. *sighs*. No GW presents this year, but some nice materials for making terrain. Hey, thats where Ive seen these guys... Ill see if I can get that link to "Santa Claws" that was up recently :P. Yourself? You mean this guy? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188524-red-coloured-space-wolves/page/2/#findComment-2233176 Share on other sites

I use which ever codex I feel like at the time. I don't see any problem with that. Particularily with the death of the 4th edition custom chapters (a huge step back for GW, unfortunately). Vash113
Perhaps it's just me, but if you're going to play Space Wolves, paint them as Space Wolves. Space Wolves don't run around in pink, red, yellow or green, blue-grey or grey, that's what they should be. You don't expect to see Ultramarines running around painted as Blood Angels. I also find armies painted to use multiple codexies distasteful. If you want to use the BT dex, play BT, if you want to use the BA Codex, play BA, this mix and match stuff just comes off as a bit lazy, indecisive and bandwagonish to me. If someone just wants to try something new before committing to a new army, that's all well and good, but I can't say much for armies that run as Blood Angels one week and Codex Marines the next. But maybe that's just me. Maybe I'm just an old school fossil, but I think having a bit of loyalty and pride towards your Chapter is a good thing. Would a Liverpool fan support Man.United just because they are currently the strongest team? I don't think so. Mammon
Have to agree. Armies painted to represent several different chapters/regiments/craftworlds is a little off putting. I dunno, it always made the army look kinda cheesy or schizophrenic. Guess I too much of a fluff-lover. But then again Space Wolves players tend to be some of the most spirited and proud of their chosen army so... To mirror alot of previous posts, paint 'em as you want 'em, its not like we will track you down and force you to chug ale till you admit the only colors worth painting with are Space Wolves colors. Not like that at all... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188524-red-coloured-space-wolves/page/2/#findComment-2234461 Share on other sites
rodf
it was just an idea , personally i only play ultramarines and angels. i use wolf models because of the whole remus and romules , and if i remember the hbo mini series rome , the romans wore wolf pelts and other pelts. so being that ultras are kind of taken from the roman times , i am using pelts and animal skulls as much as i want. that being said, i do not like people jumping to new codex, alot of blue wolves at my LGS. nothing against the wolves but viking stuff does not appeal to me much. may never see me paint a long boat on the side of my rhino unless it is kill stamps, but is sure to be next to a thousand sons stamp. isnt there a wolf chapter that has a blood maw theme to it , i do not see the color red being far fetched for that chapter. i do not know what wolves call their chapters, long houses or meed halls ? i am going to play blood angels specially when the new codex gets out, already have an army painted as such. my next army will be grey knights and i plan on working through the imperial armies till i reach guard. possibly after the guard i will play wolves, who knows. Grey Mage
Great Companies. Our "chapters" are called "Great Companies" and theyre not at chapter strength... more like a quarter of a chapter. And hey, theyre not for everyone- we need opponents after all :) or life would be very boring indeed.
