I did it my way.... Logan Grimnar

Happy New Year!

I finally finished my version of Logan Grimnar this morning (while wifey and son are still sleeping  ). I'm no big fan of the Logan you can still buy, and to some my version might scream blasphemy, but I think it fits my vision of the Great Wolf:

Still needs a final layer of varnish, and tomorrow he will lead my troops in a 6 person 20.000 points Apocalypse battle.

Cheers,

Bernd

very nice, I like the use of the FW torso, suits Grimnar!

only problem i can see with the conversion is that the axe handle is far too short and looks weird

it does look a little short but I think it's ok, you could just say it's longer but buried in the snow!

Great figure! It has an atmosphere of 'don't mess with me unless you're ready to get bloody'. Very suitable first impression for a Space Wolf. The hand resting on the axe is a nice touch. W.r.t. the axe shaft being too short, personally I think the blades are too wide making the axe seem short, and the snow covering part of the axe does not help. But no one can dismiss that such an axe does look menacing.

Congrats! ;)

Very stoic. Nice.

Not sure about the Storm Bolter though, it does look stuck on.

You may have slightly over done the snow as well, it slightly distracts from the figure.

But these are minor nit picks. It will look fantastic on the table top and certain to elicit some envious looks from your opponents.

Stoic... yes, thats the word that fits best. There is actually a cable for the stormbolter on the outer side of the hand. It's just not visible in this angle.

The handle of the axe may look short, but it's partly buried under the snow. I measured it so it could be used with both hands... longer might have looked better, but the hand holding would have been up at the shoulder, which looked way stranger. So it's a compromise...

My other often used HQ is Njal, so a bit more snow was wanted here :)

Thanks for the kind words, everyone :)

I am really not good at modelling, so with Logan I had to use the parts that were available to me. Lots of cutting, and scraping with the knife.

All I can say is: It was so much fun doing him. He came out better then I imagined when I started him.

And I have at least 3 more Characters to do... Njal, Bjorn (30% complete), and Arjac. Njal is painting only, Bjorn is finished cutting and customizing, and Arjac will get a very dynamic pose. Well... I'll post pics in the next few weeks :D
