Night Runner
I've just started building up some cheap and temporary TWC with the Heroclix Fenris wolves until GW or Forgeworld release some legal minis, and I was going through the TWC section in our dex. I've only read it once before because I'm not very keen on them, preferring Swiftclaws but after reading Nightrunner's (the original one) TWC Tactica I decided to give them a go. Well, while reading the section on page 34 for some inspiration and modeling ideas, I noticed that their Ld value is 8 and not 9. I know what you are thinking - 'Now he notices it!!! Well frankly yes. I never really took the time to look at them; dismissing them as not viable for games under 1500pts and not liking the idea of a unit of SM on giant wolves. This reduced Ld seems odd IMO since and I quote 'the upper echelons of the Wolf Guard' take them as riding beasts. It seems strange that the creme de la creme of the WG have a lower Ld (especially when you take into account how expensive they can be). Do you all think this is an oversight, mess up, mistake or actually intended for army balance reasons? ChainsawDR
fluff wise, you could look at it that the Thunderwolf panicks and flees taking the rider with it Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188750-the-wg-of-the-twc/#findComment-2233508 Share on other sites
sonofblood
I think the problem with saying it's the wolf panicking is that the wolf is supose to be enhanced genetically and robotically(or both or something like that) and that perhaps when being rode into battle is pumped with adrenaline or is modified to the point it has no sense of fear or instinct to flee. Just my thoughts though. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188750-the-wg-of-the-twc/#findComment-2233520 Share on other sites
LPetersson
Do you all think this is an oversight, mess up, mistake or actually intended for army balance reasons? I think it's a combination of the three. I think the wording is an oversight, the LD8 is intended for balance and the TWC are a mistake :-) But then again, I don't like the idea of Space Marines riding on wolves... Much too fantasy greenskin for me... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188750-the-wg-of-the-twc/#findComment-2233527 Share on other sites
