CainTheHunter
My current scout loadout mainly focuses on anti-tank - melta-gun, meltabombs for everybody. No PP, PW or MotW. But I decided to include a WG with TH and SB, and I"m thinking, whether I should expand their role to CC as well as the unit seems quite capable. It appears to me, that anti-tank should remain the first task, failing which - bad BEL rolls or no tanks nearby - they might achieve something in CC. Is somebody doing the same, any references? Grey Mage
I dont think Ive ever taken meltabombs on my scouts... seems horribly expensive, and they usually kill the tank with the Meltagun anyways. I usually run 1 Meltagun, 1 Powerweapon in a five man squad at 100pts even, and I find it does well. Throwing down 50pts for a well equiped pack leader makes them incredibly effective. CainTheHunter
I'was thinking about giving them a power weapon and/or mark as well, but then again, they would scream for close combat :). I tend to add a WG with Frost Axe and Combi Melta. That way he can be both killy in assault and Anti-Tank if needed... CainTheHunter
With BP+CCW they dont already? Because mine howl as they charge. Point taken. I guess it's just a matter of one's preferences and I'll have to playtest both options (PW/Mark). Natanael
I've been playing around with the idea of fielding larger packs of scouts, or maybe two packs. Had a game with 5+WG and 7+WG. They did really well. Small pack had Melta+Meltabombs, WG w/ Power Fist, Combi-Flamer and the large pack had 2x PW, Meltabombs, WG w/ Power Fist, Combi-Melta. Both packs can do most stuff well. deedark
If I include a pack leader he normally has a fist D. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188798-wolf-scouts/#findComment-2234123 Share on other sites

Well Hunnin and Munnin both have WC+SS, wich works out well *but is ungodly expensive* I also like Wiglaf, who has a PF+Combi-flamer. Chodjinn
I was thinking along the lines of 5 Scouts, 4x BP+CCW, 1x Meltagun + MotW, WG leader with Thunder Hammer/Power fist and melta bombs. Cheap(ish) and effective, I hope. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/188798-wolf-scouts/#findComment-2234150 Share on other sites

Cheap(ish) and effective, I hope. I'd put the MotW on another model ... don't want to get tripped up by bad wound allocation. I also prefer Power Weapons, equally effective but more reliable. To be honest, with the number of attacks they can put out and that kraks are standard now, I don't see the point of meltabombs even on WG. Against anything immobile, they'll tear it to pieces. As for WG I usually go with a Frost Axe, a combi-melta if I have the points lying around. Putting the MotW on the Meltagunner saves you one attack for the unit. I like Power Weapons too, but you can make a very nasty close combat oriented Scout Pack with 2x Power Weapons, and a MotW guy, and an attached Wolf Guard Leader; if the guys that you play with let you attach a Saga of the Hunter Wolf Priest, too, then look out! To be honest, with the number of attacks they can put out and that kraks are standard now, I don't see the point of meltabombs even on WG. Against anything immobile, they'll tear it to pieces. It's still only 1 attack per model when using grenades against a vehicle, right? Also Krak grenades don't do anything versus Monoliths and Land Raiders. You might not see many Monoliths around until the Necron army gets redone, but lots of folks who play Marines use Land Raiders. It's nice to have something that can take out a Land Raider, and a 5 point Meltabomb is a bargain for that capability. As for WG I usually go with a Frost Axe, a combi-melta if I have the points lying around. I prefer a Power Fist/Thunderhammer and a Combi-Melta. Every unit should have a high-strength weapon, and the Wolf Guard Leader is the only guy who can get one in a Wolf Scout unit. Bobman
My Wolf Scouts are geared for both AT and CC. Have been for a while, even with the last dex. If they come in where there is no armour they can give most troops a headache at least. Meltagun, plasma pistol in the pack with WG with power weapon and Melta bombs is my standard. Schertenleib
I like the idea of scouts that are both At and CC killy. After all what are you going to do after you pop that transport with the scoring unit inside? As far as power weapons on scouts..... Another poster pointed out that you exchange your bolt pistol for the power weapon leaving you nothing in the shooting phase.
