DIY Challenge

so far Im liking this....may even be enough motivation for me to get off my duff and finish my chapter off (IA at least)...But with that in mind, I have to wonder about the IA submissions for this challenge: Would it be any IA under draft and not already included in the Librarium, or would it be a new IA and chapter created at the start of the contest? From what I see so far in here, I think this is my only question (at this time)....
Each participant may take a new or under development Chapter that has not yet reached Librarium status. This may be a Chapter that you have already written an IA for, such as me, but are still in the development stage or a completely new one if you want.

Ghost Legion - See Above

And wow, I seem to be drawing the Gods of Liber out with this one. Wasn't actually a plan but I'm all for it. Good to see you guys out ie. Brother Cambrius, Ghost Legion, Feratta (although he never left us) Sigismund Himself (Also never truly left). Its great to have all the fluff buffs come from their hibernation. All we need now is Commisar Mol and a few others and we'll have the whole Liber Pantheon again.

It certainly sounds like an interesting idea, I do have a few questions/points though:

The painting. I think you have to consider that many people here at the Liber don't paint much, and knowing that you'd have to paint at least 500 pts (and on a limited time scale) would put a lot of people off of getting involved in this part of the challenge at all. It also starts getting very expensive.

TBH, if it was me setting it up, I'd probably make this part much simpler, i.e.

bronze - single miniature

silver - complete(game legal) squad

gold - army, minimum two squads + HQ

I just think this would encourage more people to get involved.

Of course, this would limit the game playing challenge, perhaps you could just add another line to the bottom of the above:

platinum - complete army, game played with full battle report written

My other question is would anyone mind if we chose to use an IA that is already accepted in the LIbrarium (your own, obviously!), and just do the story, character and painting parts. I ask this because I've only just had my Iron Gods IT accepted and I'm already planning to do some models and perhaps stories for them anyway. TBH, if I have to start from fresh I probably won't have time to get it together, and painting wise I certainly can't afford to work on two armies at once.

Regardless of if that's ok or not, I'll definately do my best to help everyone else with their IA's!

Nice idea anyway, SP, well done!

Lysimachus

Sounds more and more interesting. :P

I'll be playing to get a gold quill, and possibly a bronze skull.

As for the modelling and stuff, sadly I have neither the money nor time to try and stick to a deadline for such things.

Rather than just shoot an IA at folks at the start of this challenge, I'm planning to post my concept ideas so people can break down any rubbish bits before I build 'em up.

Unless, of course, this is against the spirit of the competition, in which case I'll just go for the IA at the start.

At the start of the challenge it might be worth also starting a new topic with the official rules for this contest in the first post. ^_^

Presumably the challenge'll start after we've all settled on the rules. B)

Seeing as everyone's itching to go, I think it would be good if the rules got finalised and a Challenge posted SP B)

I'm on board with a Challenge, certainly, to give me a boost to get the Angels Eternal up to Librarium quality and keep the painting momentum going (stalled by Blood Bowl and WFB Lizardmen atm).

No prob Ferrus, I was going to start her today anyway. I'm going to start it in a different thread so the finalised rules etc are on the first page and I will link all Players progress threads and results from the first post etc. This is mainly to avoid confusion with rules etc. So be it.

Mods might want to lock this thread to avoid confusion as well.

My final suggestions before you knock it into the rock would be;

Cut back the army/drawing sides. Make these additionals not a main focus. For the army, I really would suggest 500 points for the Gold award, not a full on army.

The character to be Fluff/Rules/Artwork/Model and Bronze = 1, Silver = 2 and Gold = 3. That way, a person could do fluff, rules and a model and get gold.

Allow for the separate units to come from different chapters. This would allow people to continue building the army for the main chapter, whilst making a second DIY chapter for the IA. For example, I couldn't use my Wings of Death for the IA but I could use them for the story, army etc.

The rule on what counts as a new chapter, for me, would be one that has not seen the internet before (or before the turn of the decade). That allows those who have started chapters this year to use them, but those who have had IAs in semi-done on Liber cannot.

Seems a pretty solid idea.

Heck, if it's just one character, I might be able to spare the time to paint the guy.

And there's absolutely nothing saying you can't do more if you want. ;)

Regarding the new chapters stuff, that's also fine by me. Rather than try and fix one of my four current WIP chapters for this contest, I'm planning on trying to keep another plate in the air with the addition of a new one anyway.

Ferrata, the idea behind the size of the army is to make players have an army usuable in a game, thus the 500pts. The challenge is designed for challengers to finish will a fully developed chapter with a army to play games with. I know not every one paints or plays or writes, but the Challenge will hopefully appeal to many here on the B&C. I'm actually thinking of posting a thread in Amicus and possibly PC&A to advertise this. Depends on what sort of sign up interest we have. As the Challenge is essentially about creating and playing a DIY Chapter I figured here would be the best place for its birth. And besides if you dont want to report a battle or paint some models, you don't have to accept those challenges.

Oh and as for your idea with the Character Challenge, I was thinking along the same lines. We'll see when we get to that Challenge.

Oh! and a final, final question would be:

We could create the army for a story driven thing like some sort of mega battle where all the nearby SP chapters (our DIY's) are called in.

This could be like:

week 1: a meeting between all the nearby chapter masters: create HQ

week 2: scout the first cities of the war torn planet: create one unit of scouts/tacticals/assaults

week 3: invade stategic points: create heavy/vehicle

week 4: assault on the main enemy base: create vehicle/troop

week 5: final battle to secure the planet: create elite/troop/fast attack

or a similar thing with different times.

just an iderio.

I think it would be prudent to create our chapters without a grand campaign in mind.

Whilst it would be fun, there's too much potential for people to look to far ahead and try to rush their IA's and similar.

The Emperor knows my Infinity Knights weren't ready to hit the field when I entered them into the Gehenna campaign - heck, their belief system and organization have totally changed since then. Apologies for the shameless plug, but it's the best example I can think of.

I'll assume I can sort of filter my ideas through the forum before creating the IA, then. Cool. ;)

The only quick amendment I would suggest to the rules is drop the requirement of the chapters being on your own DIY chapter (bar for the IA challenge). This just opens it up to Blood Angel/Dark Angel/Space Wolf players as well.

Surely the whole point is that it's to encourage Armies and IAs on DIY Chapters, rather than ask canon chapter players to paint up their own minis in a recognised, GW-approved, tutorial-available style?

Anyways, do we sign up in the new thread? Don't want to clutter it if we shouldn't.

After discussing it with SP, I got the impression this would be a wider project than just Liber. Whilst writing an IA may be the core challenge, with it being host in Liber, allowing other users to come in, write an IA and then introduce their own models from any chapter, as long as they were freshly painted. If we are allowed to use any chapter, it isn't too much effort to go around this rule and say "Yes, these are my Yellow Fists DIY chapter..." You might as well remove the rule and allow anyone to come in.

Ghost Legion - See Above

Appreciate that...I seem to have missed it as I read over everything posted so far....it happens...

Now wait just a minute....How the hell did I manage to get lumped into some sort of "gods of liber" cluster? :) Just because I am a lurker doesnt mean Im not here...and it doesnt mean I dont pay attention...hehe...

Have to say though...flattering as it is, I am hardly a god around here
