Egil Ironwolf's Great Company

Hello, I'll start with a brief introduction.

I've been collecting the Sons of Russ since they first got their 2nd Edition codex and instantly fell in love with their background and larger-than-life personalities.

The past couple of years, my army's been on hold (all 6000 points of it) mainly due to cash flow issues and the tasty rumour that we were getting a new codex. Now we have said codex, my goal is to colllect, convert (I'm a conversion junkie) and paint several Great Companies (Thunderhawks included), all of them heavily themed around a single ideal.

The options that ran around my head were Logan Grimnar with a fully Wolf Guard (not all TDA though) / Long Fang army (and this was before our codex made it possible though at that stage it would have been intended for Apoc games). The next was based around Ragnar and a fully drop-pod based list. Then it was Bjorn Stormwolf and a bike-based army, Harald Deathwolf and a mostly wolf-based army and finally Egil Ironwolf and the Mechanised list.

I plan on having at least a small contingent from each over the next few years but my first and main project will be as mentioned above.

For this project, I plan on collecting a full organisation chart's worth of models and though I would like a little playability, I'm more interested in thematics and overall appearence of the army.

Right, that out of the way, here's how my army is going to be shaping up right now:

HQ:

Egil Ironwolf (based on Chronus but Wolfified and bionicified).

Runic (read: artificer Iron) Armour; Thunderhammer, Storm Shield, Saga of the Bear (representing all those bionic improvements)

Custom Land Raider Prometheus (It's a command Land Raider, so would fit tactics-wise and for Apoc Games I would be converting it to have 4x Twin-Linked Assault Cannons)

Damocles Command Rhino (Converted from a normal Damocles crossed with a Repressor)

Wolf Priest

Runic Armour, Storm Bolter, Saga of the Warrior Born

Rune Priest

TDA, Chooser of the Slain, Storm Bolter

Elites:

I'd like to take a couple of Iron Priests but with no transports aside from bikes, I feel they would actually be OUT of keeping with the theme of the army.

Wolf Guard

4x TDA, 2x Cyclone, 4x Storm Shield & Powered Weapon

6x Power Armour with storm bolter & Powered Weapon (these guys will be squad leaders)

Wolf Scouts set up as one-pop tank hunters (or Iron Priest on bike... undecided)

Wolf Guard

7xTDA, Guns & Powered Weapon

Land Raider Crusader

Troops:

6x 5-man Grey Hunters with variations of Plasma and Melta

6x Razorback with TL Assault Cannon, TL Lascannon and Lascannon and TL Plasma Gun options available, Storm Bolter

Fast Attack:

3x Landspeeder Squadrons, 2x Typhoon, 1x Tornado

Heavy Support:

3x Predator with interchangeable loadouts.

My first project is the Damocles conversion which is now over half done (WIPs to come when my girlfriend comes round with her camera) and converting Egil himself.

Updates to come as projects are completed and cameras are available.

Status update:

Rhino base assembled with spaced armour and Space Wolf doors / front panel attached.

Having trouble combining the Repressor roof with the Damocles roof without it looking like I've simply stuck the panel on top. It's going to require a bit of clever cutting into the resin roof to make it look good.

I'm debating whether to paint the interior given the poor lighting that there will be but it seems a waste to have such a detailed model without painting it.

Greenstuff pelts and Brass Etchings to be added.

WIP photos to be added this weekend when I have access to my girlfriend's camera. Images will be sporadic as the best camera I have available is my mobile camera which is pretty pointless really.

Turns out someone on this forum had a similar idea before. This is roughly what I intend to have as an end result but hopefully will have a smoother blend of components and more decoration.

P.S. I can't actually find the image here again but I'll keep looking for it. The vehicle was a Dark Angels conversion.
