Soul Reapers Renegades reboot project

Hey guys my old Plog is quite long in the tooth, so I figured I'd do a total reboot since we are at the start of a New Year.

I also need to do a reboot as I am completely dumping the god specific Cult troops from the army; so I need to build and paint a lot of basic Chaos Marines. My game club and I have undertaken a project to create a homebrew codex for the Soul Reapers.

I have finally made some progress on my first Defiler.

Here is a mock up WIP for my Sorcerer Xusia one of the special characters from my Soul Reapers codex.

There is still tons of greenstuff work to be done; he's going to have a broad belt like the ones you see on Space Wolves, a flowing cape and I've got a couple of nifty ideas for the exhausts on his powerpack.

So far I have used parts from a Dark Angels sgt, WFB warriors of Chaos, Khorne Zerkers, basic CSM's, the Chaos Lord and the Staff head comes from Sauron from the LotR range.

Here is the first new CSM squad minus the Champ, that I am currently painting.

I'm loving your sorcerer WIP. What's his extended arm from?

Some nice clean painting on the defiler, and the squad and sorcerer look cool as well. Must be a pain whenever he has to go through a door though.

Looking forward to seeing more paint!

:) Thanks guys. Neph the arm from the shoulder to the elbow is actually the new SW powersword arm, the gauntlet is from a spare heavy bolter arm and the Hand is from the SM Termy Librarian.

Thanks Cap!

Here are the first couple of Reaver assault troops from my Soul Reapers codex. I've gone with a quasi Skull helmet so I can use them as counts as Berzerkers in games outside of the club.

I'm pretty happy with how the Heavy Flamer Reaver turned out!

Here is a quick update on Xusia. His cape is about halfway done, I still need to do the right side and clean up the edges. I am quite happy with how the belt is shaping up; next I'll be adding the gemstone. I really need to figure out where I got that metal left-handed holster.

Great to see you're back working on this army, your Chaos Marines were a source of inspiration to me when i started working on my own army :)

Impressive sculpting work on the skull helms :) Looking forward to seeing the Codex too :)

I think that I've finally got my painting groove back! Sometimes it's funny the models that inspire you when you are in a painting rut. I've really been trying hard to get some painting done on my character minis for my Reapers and Wolves, but just wasn't making any real headway.

Then I was sitting here yesterday and this Aspiring Champ model just started screaming at me to be painted. Who am I to argue with the powers of Chaos!?!

Well as you can see he is painted, there are a few little things to finish. Then I'll start working on the other three Aspiring Champs I had sitting next to him.

I love this new model and especially love the basing. All too often it seems Chaos basing is lava (of which I am guilty) or some other deadly terrain, but the look on your Asp. champ's face says to me that he's confused about being on grass and such, and is ready to destroy all beauty! Looking very good!

Here is Xusia the Master of Malevolence completed and ready for paint. I am quite pleased with the outcome. I cannot wait to get him painted! My Pop is visiting and say's that "he screams Special Character!"

Looks like an Ahriman to me, maybe...

Awesome conversions there! I'd hate to go against them in a game - look nasty! ^_^

Thanks for the feedback guys!

He will probably be doing some stand in work for Ahriman, on the competitive side of things. Once the new Blood Angels codex hits he'll be doubling as Mephiston in my Counts as tourney army.

I finished the Sorcerer and added him to my Hall of Heresy.

Here is the Rhino I am working on. I really didn't like how the tarnished bronze was turning out with the drybrush techniques I was using; so I busted out the old airbrush and started over again.

This time I decided to attempt to get the tarnished bronze effect with the airbrush. I must say I am quite pleased with this first Rhino, so much so that I will be painting all the rest of the tanks using this technique.

The top doors were inspired by this piece of artwork created for my codex project. I think it turned out great, although it is a little off center.

Great to see more Soul Reapers! ;) Good results on the Airbrushed Rhino, I'm going to do some more Rhinos soon (as well as having a Vindicator and LR to paint), and have been thinking of spraying them Brass as the basecoat; as you've got such a good result I'll have a go and see what I can come up with.

Great work as always!
